To All of My (Single) Hopeless Romantics Out There…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Dear every single girl (like me) on Valentine’s Day,

Have no fear! I am here to save you a day of sulking around from class to class and feeling bitter about being single on Valentine’s Day… again. Or at least I am going to attempt to. Let’s start by realizing that boys aren’t even all that great (unless it’s Liam Hemsworth we’re talking about). Relationships are so much work anyway, and who even has time for that? For a self-sufficient, independent, super hot and amazing girl like yourself, no one deserves you! To me, there is nothing better than a movie night; especially one with my best friends, lots of food, and occasionally some wine. Plus, who would want to actually leave a heated room full of friends for the freezing cold of Pittsburgh for a date? Not to mention having to wait for the 10A that always seems to be coming from Narnia? With this in mind, I have put together a list of movies that are perfect choices for my fellow hopeless romantics. So pick a few (or all) of my suggestions, get your single girls together, buy pounds of chocolate and countless bottles of Pinot Grigio, and have the single best Valentine’s Day ever!

10. Titanic

Though this is honestly not my favorite movie (oops), I still think it deserves to be on this list. Something about Jack Dawson just makes me feel some type of way.

9. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey… enough said.

8. She’s All That

One of my favorite movies from the ‘90s. Who doesn’t love the typical “guy tries to change the nerdy girl but ends up falling for her” movie?

7. The Proposal

Not only is there a great deal of romance, but you’re sure to be laughing the whole time. Plus, I could stare at Ryan Reynolds for about… forever.

6. A Cinderella Story

Chad Michael Murray is an absolute god. Plus, I’m always a sucker for kissing scenes in the rain.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

This is just a movie everyone needs to see. I want you to want me, I need you to need me… right?

4. Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Obviously my all-time favorite movie had to make it onto the list. Holly Golightly is a character any girl will fall in love with and aspire to be. She’ll really make you want to have breakfast at Tiffany’s!

3. He’s Just Not That Into You

Almost every girl can relate to this movie. Imagine the person you want actually wanting you back…

2. Friends With Benefits

I have a girl crush on Mila, so that’s a good enough reason for me. Not to mention JT will always have a special place in my heart.

1. [Nicholas Sparks Movie]

I know this isn’t a specific movie title, but if you were to look up what a hopeless romantic movie was in the dictionary, every “Nicholas Sparks” novel-made-movie would be a synonym for it. From A Walk to Remember to The Last Song, you’re sure to find a movie that will make you cry your eyes out. Don’t forget your waterproof mascara!

Hi! I'm Jessie and I am currently dual majoring in communication and non-fiction writing at The University of Pittsburgh. I am also the Senior Editor for Pitt's Her Campus! I emulate everything Carrie Bradshaw and can watch Breakfast At Tiffany's everyday for the rest of my life. You can usually find me blasting country music a little too loud while wearing a floppy hat.
