I was first introduced to Phoebe Bridgers in 2019. During my sophomore year of highschool we were assigned a playlist project in which we had to make a short playlist for each of the two main characters of John Knowles’ A Seperate Peace. When building the playlist for Gene Forrester, a tortured private school boy, I stumbled upon “Motion Sickness” by Phoebe Bridgers, and I was hooked. Stranger in the Alps quickly became an album I had on constant repeat (even more so at college), and then Punisher was added into the mix. Then came my discovery of boygenius–a powerhouse group composed of indie icons Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. The trio released their joint EP in 2018, featuring songs such as “Me & My Dog” and “Salt in the Wound.”  And while each member of the trio would release solo music between 2018 and now – Dacus with Home Video, Bridgers with Punisher, and Baker with Little Oblivions – there was no new boygenius music…until now.

Speculation of a new boygenius album began to circulate earlier this year when the three women were spotted together seemingly for a photoshoot. Then came the leaked reveal that the new boygenius album was set to release on March 31, 2023. And now, the new album has officially been confirmed by Bridgers, Dacus and Baker who all posted on their Instagrams saying, “the record is out March 31st and three songs are out now.” So, it’s safe to say that every indie lover in your life is probably having a personal crisis right about now–and already has the 3 singles “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry” and “True Blue” added to all their appropriate playlists. As for me personally, March is already shaping up to be one the best months of the year, with the release of the Daisy Jones and the Six TV show, Yellowjackets season 2, and now boygenius’ the record. Now fans eagerly await the new album and gather hope for a boygenius tour.
