Nominated by our very own Campus Cuties, CJ Stavrakos and Pat O’Donnell, we have our Campus Celeb, Brock Stein. Not only was he the sweetest person when I met with him, but he’s bringing great things to our campus. Brock is the Junior Associate Member Counselor-elect for the Delta Chi fraternity and he is also an integral part of the start up of a new on-campus organization: Student Consulting for Non-profit Organizations. This organization focuses on students aiding non-profits in businesses. Here is what Brock had to say when I talked to him.
HC: What is your role in SCNO?
Brock: Well, my official title is VP of Administration, but I believe my role on the team is to provide any input I can from experience. While I’m not professing to have a wealth of experience in consulting, I think I can bring some ideas to the table for the benefit of the team and client. For the pilot project, my teammate and I worked on contingency planning and documentation for the implementation of a composting system at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
HC: What is the most interesting thing you have learned so far from being involved in the organization?
Brock: Without a doubt, SCNO has taught me more about the value of giving back to the community. I can’t emphasize how rewarding the experience has been to watch myself, and the rest of our team, see the operations and impact of non-profit organizations. Also, I would say working with non-profits is a win-win situation for SCNO because not only are we giving back, but they are also providing us with invaluable experience in the real world.
HC: What do you want your biggest impact on the campus to be?
Brock: I hope the organizations I’m involved in continue to grow and flourish. SCNO is still on its pilot project, and I think the opportunities that the organization can provide are limitless. I optimistically believe SCNO will grow to be a huge asset to the Pitt campus and the community at-large. In addition, Delta Chi fraternity is still a relatively new chapter at Pitt and has grown in the short time I’ve been a brother. I really look forward to coming back as an alumnus someday and seeing the growth and successes of both SCNO and Delta Chi. Most importantly, I want my impact on the Pitt campus to be more personal than the organizations I am or have been involved in. In my opinion, the best thing I can do for our campus is to be supportive of my peers, and if I can positively impact someone’s life, that would be the most important impact I could have.
HC: What is the biggest impact the campus has had on you?
Brock: Pitt has undoubtedly helped me grow not only as a student but also as a person. By being involved and getting to know people, I have learned how to prioritize what really matters and stop sweating the small stuff. Our campus has also been invaluable in creating lifelong friendships.
HC: What are your future plans and goals?
Brock: Following graduation, I plan on moving back to Schuylkill County and joining my family’s business. I have a lot of pride for the area I’m from, and I hope to find ways to give back to the region. I have a lot of interest in politics, but for the time being, I only have plans to be in the private sector. However, I’m not saying it will never happen.
So there we have it. Cheers to one of Pitt’s own helping to make this campus and the business world a better place! After speaking to him, I have no doubt Brock will do great things in the future.
