Fresh Fitness Options during Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Ah, finals week. A time known for stress, overeating and under sleeping.  Among all the papers and desperation you may be surrounded by, a fitness class might be just what the doctor ordered to get out of Oakland and get your body moving. As renowned mental coach, Jim Kwik, once said “When your body moves, your brain groves.” So here are some fresh and fun ways to get up and moving this finals week.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre – first class free

PBT- yes, where ballerinas train and perform, offers classes for us normies! You can take ballet classes ranging from beginner to advanced (with a live piano accompaniment!) as well as fitness classes like Cardio Dance Fitness and Pilates.

Orange Theory- first class free

Orange Theory is a very regimented fitness class for anyone who wants a workout that feels like you are an athlete in training. It starts with a guided 30 minute treadmill session and follows with 30 minutes of resistance training. These classes are great because they incorporate both cardio and strength training for a well-rounded sweat sesh.

Millennium Dance Complex- $13 for college students

If you’re as obsessed with watching countless videos of professional dancers in the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles as me and my friends are, you’ll be as psyched to know that there is a Millennium right here in South Side. Anyone can take classes from hip-hop to burlesque! It’s a fantastic way to embrace your inner superstar, sweat (more than you’d think is possible) and take an hour break from wasting away at Hillman Library.

Yoga Flow -$10.00 for college students- Community Classes for $5

The flurries are starting to fall here in Oakland, so if you want an excuse to hang out in an extremely hot room for an hour, Yoga Flow is the place for you. Since the room is so hot and steamy, make sure you adequately hydrate before and after the class. They offer a variety classes to best suit your yoga needs!

Athleta Yoga Hiit with Yoga Factory- free

If you’ve used up all the “first class free”’s you can find in the Pittsburgh area, Lululemon and Athleta in Shaydside often offer free classes in their stores! Just keep an eye out on their social media to see what times and types of workouts they’re hosting.
