Look out NYC, because this girl is coming at you in full force! Leah Dowdy, a Senior graduating this Spring from Pitt with a degree in Communications and Film Studies and a minor in dance, will blow you away with her cheerful confidence and natural ability to have you cracking up within moments of meeting. Don’t let her fool you though. This girl isn’t just a cute face and giggles. This sassy dancer has studied abroad in London for a semester where she interned with a film production company under Sally Potter, attended several film premiers, and even interned at MTV for another Summer where she worked with the production company. “I got to bring soda and water to Flo Rida’s room!” she said with a little smirk and shrug, as if it was no big deal at all.Â
Leah’s modesty about the amount of talent she truly has, as well as her never ending tendency to joke and make fun of herself simply makes her all the more admirable. She jokingly calls herself “a professional extra” poking fun at herself, but the fact is that she has made the cut and appeared in several movies (a couple right here in Pittsburgh). She’s been working hard towards her majors, Communications and Film Studies, as well as going above and beyond for what’s required for a dance minor. Leah has choreographed dances many times in the Pitt Dance Ensemble’s Fall and Spring shows and on top of that has created multiple short films to promote the dance program here at Pitt.
Don’t forget to see the Pitt Dance Ensemble’s Spring Show, Orchesis, at Alumni Hall this Friday and Saturday at 8pm!
I know I don’t speak for only myself when I say she will be deeply missed on campus next year. When I asked her, “You know what you’re doing after your graduate, right? What are you doing?” She replied with her dry, sarcastic, hilarious tone of voice, “I’m gonna be famous.” I cracked up typing her quote on my keyboard. “No, no, no! Don’t you dare write that!” she scolded me in between laughs and slapping my typing hands. While I assured her that I wouldn’t write it (haha a total lie), the truth is that we really do need to keep our eyes peeled for this girl!
She will be heading to New York City where her talents will allow her to audition for both behind the camera and in front of the camera openings. “I’ll be living in New York by September after auditioning all Summer.  I want to see if I can work on the other side (referring to in front of the camera). But which ever happens first, that’s where we’re going!”’
