While trying to decide who to interview for Campus Cutie this week, I figured, why not ask the one, the only, Gabriel Kaufman? Born in Jerusalem, Israel, he’s now a freshman here at Pitt and is loving college so far. Otherwise known as “Gaby” or “Gabs,” this Campus Cutie has one of the deepest voices I’ve ever heard, and with that manly voice he graciously accepted my offer and was honored to be featured as this week’s Campus Cutie! Let’s learn a little more about him here:
Her Campus: Okay, let’s start with a simple question… why did you choose to come to Pitt?
Gabriel Kaufman: I chose to come to Pitt because it’s a really big school and it’s super diverse. I went to a really small high school, so I wanted to expand my horizons and do something completely new and different.
HC: Have you gotten involved with any organizations on campus?
GK: Yes. I’ve gotten involved in a lot, like: Chabad, Hillel, WPTS Radio, and Tamid Beta at Pitt (an Israeli business organization).
HC: Wow, look at you! So now for the deeper questions. Describe your ideal date.
GK: Probably going to a supermarket and watching crabs fight. Or maybe just going to Market and, I don’t know, ordering for the girl even though there’s only the pre-selected options. (laughs). Actually, probably one where I wouldn’t have to do much talking, like rock climbing…or, what’s something else that doesn’t involve much talking?
HC: Hmm, going to a movie?
GK: Nah. Oh! ‘Netflix and chill.’ Or ‘Hulu and hang.’ Or ‘Amazon Prime and…’ and…
*attempts to come up with proper word*
HC: Wow, you’re such a romantic! (sarcasm) What’s the first thing you notice in a girl?
GK: Big…round…voluptuous…eyes.
HC: Ha, I see what you did there. Now, what’s the biggest turn off in a girl?
GK: Either a very low voice or a very high pitched voice. Or if she’s really hairy — big turn off.
HC: How would your friends describe you?
GK: I was at a party once and I was dancing with this girl. She said, “You’re a goof. I love it.” I went back to my dorm and was upset because I didn’t want to be a goof. I’ve always been a goof, so I was going for the more serious persona. So, when I told my dear friend, Liam, he said, “It’s not necessarily a bad thing. You are a goof, but you’re a good goof. You’re like a WiFi signal…you just spread happiness wherever you go.” That was probably the most awesome thing I have ever been told in my life.
HC: What a good friend! So, what has been your most embarrassing story from college so far?
GK: Hmm. Well, there are a few things that I’ve done that I don’t want to say. Oh, I said hi to a guy at Market that I didn’t know because I thought he was someone I knew. So that was awkward. The same thing happened to me in 10th grade! I was at a track meet and I was certain that I saw my friend watching the meet over the fence. So I go over and start massaging his back because he’s my best friend. He turns around…it’s not him. And that was the most awkward moment of my life.
HC: Ooh…that’s embarrassing. Well, on another note, do you have any hidden talents?
GK: Well, everyone knows I have a very impressive speaking voice. I don’t know, I’m pretty out there so everyone knows what I bring to the table and people like what I bring to the table…usually.
HC: Who’s your celeb crush?
GK: Hmmm…I don’t know. I guess maybe Charlie Kelly from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or Frank Reynolds…but I’m straight.
HC: Great show. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
GK: I feel like everyone goes to Europe and, while there are some cultural differences there, it’s not a whole lot different than the United States. So I would probably go to either Asia or Africa and just experience something that a lot of people won’t ever get the opportunity to experience. People visit Europe all the time without realizing how much history is in other parts of the world, like Africa and Asia. I love history and it would be baller to visit the hearths of civilization.
HC: What are a few things on your bucket list?
GK: Be featured as a Campus Cutie for Her Campus, make it big in radio with my partner in crime, Litz (please listen to our most recent podcast on WPTS Radio!), and break the internet with this Campus Cutie article.
HC: Well, you can now check one of those off your list! As a kid, when you were asked what you want to be when you grow up, what was your answer?
GK: Oh, this is funny! Most kids will say they either want to be an astronaut or a race car driver. But, we have this book in my house from me in kindergarten where I wrote about what I wanted to do in the future, and other things like that. I wrote, “When I grow up, I want to be a rabbi,” so that was pretty funny.
HC: What has been your favorite experience at Pitt so far?
GK: Hanging out with Emily Kearns.
HC: I’m flattered! Well, is there anything else you want HC readers to know about you?
GK: Please listen to our weekly podcast, “The Litz and Gaby Show,” on WPTS Radio. Also, I’m single and I’m ready to mingle.
There you have it, ladies! Thanks, Gaby, for the interview!
