Here at Her Campus we like to celebrate the freedom of choice that is entitled to everyone! In partnership with Bedsider.org, we are spreading the word in giving many thanks to none other than…our birth control! Bedsider has started the “Thanks Birth Control” campaign in the hopes of diminishing the stigma around the discussion about birth control. Joining the campaign is not only Her Campus, but MTV, Cosmopolitan Magazine and its Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles, MarieClaire.com, MTV’s Maci Bookout, actress Cassie Steele, HelloGiggles.com, founder Molly McAleer, Ricki Lake, Momster.com, designer and reality star Angela Simmons, Dr.Drew, and others. We want to get #ThxBirthControl trending on Twitter, and spread the word through Facebook, Instagram and more. We encourage participants to talk about what birth control makes possible either in their lives or for families everywhere. We want to dispel myths, share facts, and spread the word that talking about this topic is important. If we can’t talk about contraception, how can we expect people to be comfortable using it?
Birth control. It makes so much possible. No wonder 99% of U.S. women have used it. What does birth control make possible for you? For society? In a recent study, 55% of sexually active women ages 18-22 said they’d feel more comfortable using contraception if more people talked about it in a positive way. What makes birth control so hard to talk about? What would it take to get people talking more positively about birth control? As young college women, it is time to stop feeling embarrassed when it comes to our sexual health! Take a stand with us and tweet, post to Facebook, and Instagram yourself saying “thanks, birth control!” It allows you to focus on having fun and enjoying college without always wondering about pregnancy, and other issues. Birth control gives you the freedom to plan a family on your own terms. It allows you to work or travel or pursue your dreams before you’re ready to have a baby. On November 12th, please join us saying, “Thanks, Birth Control,” let’s get #thxbirthcontrol trending and see what happens when the world shows some love for something as important as contraception.
