Homecoming weekend is closing in fast here at Pitt, and Her Campus has chosen to support Amelia Brause in her run for Homecoming Queen! Amelia is a senior, neuroscience major, hailing from Scotch Plains, New Jersey. She’s been super-involved on campus since becoming a panther as a board member of Colleges Against Cancer, committee member of Relay for Life, and a sister in ADPi. Amelia already has plenty of experience representing the Pitt students as a board member on the Student Government Board and as the Undergraduate Representative for the Chancellor’s Rep Committee.
HC: For starters, what made you decide to run for Homecoming Queen?
AB: It was largely my sorority that motivated me to run. It was a completely last minute decision. It was always something I said ‘Oh, I would never do that,’ but with all of the girls telling me I should do it I changed my mind.
Â
HC: What do you hope to do as Homecoming Queen?
AB: I would highlight my sorority and sustainability groups. The rules for Homecoming have changed so we cannot raise money personally, but we can raise awareness. If I win, I get a crown and the chance to be more involved on campus. And walking on Heinz Field would be pretty cool too. It’s cool to meet so many new people. Even just running, I’ve had the chance to meet and talk to new people!
Â
HC: How did you start getting involved in so many clubs?
AB: I was always really active in clubs in high school and it carried on from there.
Â
HC: How do you balance it all?
AB: It has really just become routine. I love being over scheduled or busy!
Â
HC: Now that you’re in your senior year, what are your plans for after graduation?
AB: I want to be a physician’s assistant. I would like to go through a dual degree program with a master’s in Public Health.
Â
HC: You know Pitt has a great Public Health program, right?
AB: Yes! I would love to go to Pitt for grad school, I love the city of Pittsburgh!
Remember to vote Amelia Brause for Homecoming Queen at the polls today!
