Cassi Stovash is a senior SAEM major from right here in Pittsburgh! Not only is this busy gal a marketing and promotions intern for PPU’s premiere record label, Pioneer Records- she’s also a spray tan technician and none other than the Her Campus Point Park founder! Find out just why she began our team, how it’s helped her and what’s next for this graduating collegiette:
HC: How did you originally get involved with Her Campus?
I first got involved with Her Campus when I was a sophomore at West Virginia Wesleyan College. My RA at the time & I worked on the school newspaper together, so when she started WVWC’s chapter she recruited me to be a founding writer and serve as their Campus Style Blogger!
HC: What Inspired you to start a chapter here at Point Park?
When I transferred to Point Park, I was leaving behind two organizations I really loved being involved with at Wesleyan: Her Campus and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Since Point Park has no Greek life (and starting an entire Greek community would be nearly impossible), I knew I had to bring HC with me to Pittsburgh!
HC: Did you run into any issues while starting up the chapter? How did you deal with them?
The main issue I ran into when starting HC Point Park was being a transfer student and commuter, so I didn’t necessarily understand our school’s dynamic yet or know many people on campus. I was worried that there would be a lack of interest in getting people to join our HC team, but as soon as I put a Facebook group out about our chapter coming to campus soon, a group of about 8 super passionate girls got involved right away!
HC: What is your current position with Her Campus and how does it work?
Currently I’m a Chapter Advisor on the Her Campus National Team, meaning I oversee 5-10 chapters at different colleges and universities throughout the country to make sure they’re following HC policies, meeting their requirements, and basically just helping them manage their chapters any way I can. I’d say in the past two years I’ve worked directly with over 15 chapters!
HC: What kind of opportunities has Her Campus brought to you?Â
Oh my, Her Campus has opened a countless number of doors for me! Being associated with the company helped me land my internships & some other cool opportunities. The most notable would have to be getting to attend Her Conference and College Fashion Week events in New York City, as well as getting press access at Vans Warped Tour so I can interview artists such as Echosmith, PVRIS, The Summer Set, and Courage My Love!
HC: What is your most favorite Her Campus memory?
Picking one is just hard, but any time the HC Point Park staff and I have traveled to NYC for an event it’s been unforgettable. There’s no better team bonding than tearing up the Big Apple together!
HC: Your favorite article you’ve written and your favorite article by another member:
I’m really proud of my artist interviews, as well as my coverage of the APMAs this summer! As far as another member’s, definitely “The Most Hilarious Tinder Pick-Up Lines Of Pittsburgh.” I go back and read it when I’m having a bad day sometimes because the things these guys say are just so absurd that I can’t not laugh!
HC: What is you favorite HC swag item?Â
The Her Campus half-zip and my spirit jersey!
HC: How has Her Campus shaped your college experience?
That’s a loaded question… Honestly, I didn’t understand college at first; I thought it was just one big party. But then I got heavily involved with Her Campus, and that involvement is what made me the career-oriented, driven girl I am today. Being part of this organization taught me about purpose, responsibility, leadership, how to go after what I want, and that my dreams aren’t as far off as they may seem. I don’t think I’d have the skill sets or the confidence I do today if it weren’t for HC. Not to mention I found mentors, some lifelong friends, and a handful of my future bridesmaids through my Her Campus experience! It’s definitely been the highlight of my college career and I’m sad it will be ending in a few short months.
HC: Where do you see yourself going after graduation?
After graduation I’m enrolling in a three-month long aesthetician program to pursue my other greatest passion: perfect eyebrows! But really, beauty and skincare has always been a love of mine so I’m getting that license while I seek out opportunities in the music industry. I’m also highly enthusiastic about the possibility of working full-time with Her Campus!
