Review of the Gaslight Anthem Concert

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

On Friday October 17, 2014 The Gaslight Anthem preformed at the venue Stage AE. This show was the last stop for The Gaslight Anthem’s American tour; however they would ship out to begin a European tour the next day. The band formerly from New Brunswick, New Jersey played a riveting concert to a sold out crowd at Stage AE. Lead singer Brian Fallon used not only his incredible live voice to stimulate the crowd, but also his witty charm.

The boys played a wide variety of their songs from their earliest album Sink or Swim from 2007 to their latest album Get Hurt, which came out just this past August. The group also used the lighting system to their advantage, entrancing the crowd with a variety of powerful colors and outrageous flashing techniques. The Gaslight Anthem also gave their fans a grand encore of six different songs. The first song was especially riveting because of the special guest that the group brought out. Matthew Ryan, a huge influence on the band, joined The Gaslight Anthem to sing I Can’t Steal You a song that majorly influenced the band.

Opening for The Gaslight Anthem were two different acts, Cory Branan and Against Me. Both were very well rehearsed opening acts. Cory Branan used explicit language and folky music to entrance the audience. His witty song The Prettiest Waitress in Memphis had the crowd laughing and singing along with him. Against Me used powerful music and transgender promotion to round up their crowd. The lead singer of Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace, is a strong activist for transgender equality. Laura Grace also brought out her daughter at the end of the act, making the audience awe with admiration.

All in all, The Gaslight Anthem concert at Stage AE provided an infinite amount of entertainment for the crowd. The Gaslight Anthem provided around two hours worth of entertainment just with their performance, giving their audience a full-length concert of musical variety. Those who attended this event won’t forget it and those who didn’t will wish they did!
