Rumors speculated on April Fool’s Day that the beloved ’80s-’90s sitcom, Full House, was in the works of a spin off sequel series. The news spread like wildfire, and fans everywhere were off-their-rockers excited, while others were skeptical of the supposed April Fool’s joke. The jokester day passed, and news was still circulating of the rumored revival. The rumors are apparently true, and supposedly Netflix is looking to take on the challenge of pleasing the die-hard ’80s and ’90s kids of the world.
According to numerous sources, a 13-episode continuation is going to focus on the grown-up lives of D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron-Bure), and her infamously irritating neighbor and BFF, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber). Fellow Full House vets such as John Stamos, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier are being eyed to make guest appearances in their iconic roles as Uncle Jesse, dad Danny Tanner, and Danny’s BFF Joey Gladstone. Stamos is rumored to be having a producing role in the new series, as well. There is no known information yet if Jodie Sweetin will sign on to revive her role as Stephanie Tanner, or if Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will sign on for Michelle Tanner. The project is being guided by the original show’s creator, Jeff Franklin, who will be an executive producer alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett who were executive producers of the original series.
As stated before, fans everywhere are excited about the long-awaited spin-off, but will it flop? Several spin-off series of beloved television shows have a history of harvesting a disappointing result, such as The Golden Palace from the originating post-menopausal sitcom, The Golden Girls, which only survived one season. Several die-hard fans of the original coming-of-age series Boy Meets World have reportedly been screaming on the inside (not in a good way), at the spin-off on Disney Channel, Girl Meets World.
So what does this mean for us? Are we going to be disappointed like all other classic series sequels? Or will we be pleasantly surprised with this anticipated revival? There is no set date on when the premiere will debut, but I know as a die-hard Full House fan, I will be tuning in on that blessed night!
