Where Are They Now?: Harry Potter Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

While the Harry Potter series may have ended over three years ago, our love for Harry and the people who portrayed the other characters has never subsided. Here’s what the cast of the Harry Potter series has been up to in the post-Harry Potter muggle world:

1. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)

Daniel Radcliffe returned to performing in 2011, starring in the classic Broadway Musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” as leading man J. Pierrepont Finch. He hasn’t abandoned the movie entirely, starring infilms like “The Woman in Black,” “Kill Your Darlings” and most recently, “Horns,” in which he plays a man accused of raping and murdering his girlfriend, forcing him to track down the real perpetrator.

2. Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley)

Grint has also opted for a stint on Broadway, with his recent role starring alongside Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Stockard Channing, and Megan Mullally in “It’s Only a Play.” He went on to play rockstar Cheetah Chrome of the band Rocket from the Tombs and the Dead Boys in a 2013 film “CBGB.” He’s also set to star in two upcoming movies, “Moonwalkers” and “Enemy of the Man,” which are both set to have a 2015 release.

3. Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy)

The extremely handsome Tom Felton hasn’t been up to a whole lot lately. He starred in the 2011 movie “Planet of the Apes,”  and in early 2014 starred alongside Elizabeth Olsen and American Horror Story goddess Jessica Lange in the erotic Thriller “In Secret.”

4. Alan Rickman (Severus Snape)

While he had an extensive career before the Harry Potter series, since then Alan has played a US President (Ronald Regan in “The Butler” (2013)), a club owner (in CBGB alongside former co-cast member Rupert Grint), and is set to be the voice of the Caterpillar once more in “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass” set to release in 2016.

5. Maggie Smith (Minvera McGonagall)

With a career spanning over 20 years, appearing in over 50 films, including Harry Potter, Maggie Smith is quite possibly one of Britain’s most recognizable actresses. Since Harry Potter, she has starred in the popular British show, “Downton Abbey,” as the well-known Violet Crawley. Downton Abbey will be returning for a 5th season in the US this coming January.

6. Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort)

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named had a big year in 2012, with roles in three major productions: “Skyfall,” “Wrath of the Titans,” and “Great Expectations” (the movie based on the popular Charles Dickens novel). This year he starred in the Wes Anderson comedy “The Grand Budapest Hotel” as Monsieur Gustave H. Fiennes is set to star in yet another James Bond film next year.

7. Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Arguably one of the most successful post-Harry actors, Emma Watson has done a fabulous job of breaking free from the Hermione Granger image. Since the series she has had leading roles in “Noah,” “This Is The End,” “The Bling Ring,” and tearjerker/feel good movie, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Watson has also continued on with her academic and humanitarian career, graduating from Brown University this year with a degree in English Literature and being appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, where she continues to fight for gender equality.
