Here are some more predictions:
Best Actor Nominees
Javier Bardem in Biutiful
Jeff Bridges in True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network
Colin Firth in The King’s Speech
James Franco in 127 Hours
Predicted Winner: Colin Firth
Though James Franco’s ability to carry essentially the entire movie of 127 Hours by himself was more than impressive-as was Jesse Eisenberg’s transformation into a pretentious computer genius- Colin Firth has this one in the bag. Fresh off his Golden Globe and BAFTA wins, Firth will also take home the little gold man for his mastery of a complicated character, whose stutter is not just a linguistic complication, but deeply psychological.
Best Actress Nominees
Annette Bening in The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman in The Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone
Natalie Portman in The Black Swan
Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine
Predicted Winner: Natalie Portman
Though I have loved Michelle Williams since her days on Dawson’s Creek, none of the actresses in this category stand up to Natalie Portman’s Swan Queen. She flawlessly captures the quintessential meek, obedient ballerina yet somehow transforms into a delirious, vindictive Black Swan. And if nothing else, she deserves an award for the years the of rigorous ballet training and extreme dieting she did to prepare for the role.
