It’s an absolute must to venture over to Sauvie Island during fall and visit one of the many pumpkin patches and corn mazes. A favorite is The Original Maze that has not only the classic fall activities, but also a haunted corn maze, hay rides and even a café for you and your friends to stop at after a long day of getting lost in the maze and picking the perfect pumpkin. Bring your pumpkins back home and have a carving/decorating contest to see who can be the most creative with their pumpkin!
2. Cathedral Coffee Shop
Cathedral Coffee just opened about a mile away from campus on Willamette and is the perfect rainy day getaway during the fall season. Bring some friends here to take a break from homework and grab a cup of coffee and baked good or even bring your homework here to get off campus to have a change of scenery. Nothing beats a cozy coffee shop with a cup of fresh roasted coffee or a house baked pastry!
3. The Tao of Tea
For all you tea lovers out there, The Tao of Tea on Belmont St. is the place for you. The Tao of Tea uses only pure tealeaves and hand crafted tea ware and even serves it in a variety of traditional styles depending on what your favorite tea is. There is a large selection of teas to choose from, but you can also request your own personal blend of teas and herbs if you wish. Go here to warm up on a cold day and enjoy the calm and peaceful environment after a stressful week of classes!
4. Farmers Market
There are several great farmers markets for you to enjoy during the fall season that offer you a glimpse into the unique and fun culture around Portland! A favorite is the Saturday market in downtown Portland that is always bustling with people. There is a food booth for any craving and vendors that sell anything and everything from henna tattoos, jewelry, to art for your dorm room. If you are really into the Portland culture you can pick yourself up a famous spoon ring and grab yourself a VooDoo Donut!
5. Cathedral Park
Located right under the St. John’s Bridge is the famous Cathedral Park that is the perfect place to get some fresh air and look at the beautiful colors of the changing leaves! This is a great place to take pictures for those who love photography, and for those who want to further explore the St. John’s area. Grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks and take the short walk down to the park to catch up with friends and enjoy the view of the river! And really, who could resist a hang out spot under a bridge?
