Wow, has it been a whirlwind! But I wouldn’t trade this past month for the world. I’ve met so many nifty people, learned a heck of a lot in my classes and have had a few amazing/horrifying events happen… So where should I begin?
Let’s start off with my first week, or, to be more accurate, one of the scariest weeks of my life. I’m a bit more on the shy side, so walking into my classes and seeing all of the older students was definitely an intimidating experience. Even saying my name during roll call was a rush, realizing everyone in class was looking at me. I can’t lie though, it was actually pretty exciting.
Not only did I feel like a shy little girl in a big new world, but I even caught the eye of one of the baseball players (which was actually very flattering, but not as fun as you might think). It was sooo annoying and it took forever for him to get the hint that I’m a strong, independent woman who “don’t need no man.”
Also, on the 5th night of staying in our dorm room, my roomie and I had the fright of a lifetime! Sitting on my bed, watching a movie with the door closed, we didn’t hear the fire alarm going off (I know, it sounds dumb, but it was very quiet). Next thing we know, we hear a pounding on our door. We proceed to open it to find one of the school police officers and the alarms blaring. Even the first words out of his mouth, which were “Well, you two successfully burned to death,” were literally horrifying. Luckily, our hall directors understood our predicament and we didn’t have to suffer the consequences. But it was still humiliating!
On a more positive note, however, these things didn’t in the slightest make my first few weeks of college bad ones.
In fact, I’ve already had a time-of-my-life or two. For example, last night was my first college dance and boy, was it wild. Trust me, if you forget a trip to the gym on a day of a college dance, don’t sweat it, because you’re probably going to do that on the dance floor! (Pictured below is me and my roomie all dolled up for the dance. I’m on the right, she’s on the left.)
I’ve also met some pretty incredible people here too. Not only is everyone here motivated to succeed, but everyone’s extremely accepting and kind to every type of person. I can already tell you that I’ve already met some of my best friends. My roomie, for example, is super funny, kind and open to sharing anything I might need. She even gave up her time to take care of me when I got very sick one weekend (,: Even though I’m somewhat more introverted, opening up to people has gotten a lot easier, and I’m having the time of my life hanging out with such an inviting new crowd.
My classes are also amaaazing. As a nursing major, I get to learn a lot about the human body, our stages through life and meanings behind life. Studying for these classes is so much more interesting than in high school. Here, I get to learn about what I’m passionate about, which makes everything a little easier. The clubs here are amazing too. I get to pick and choose what I want to do based on my passions, and I’ve yet to have any regrets! Fashion Club? Art Club? Badminton? Here I come!
To wrap it up, college so far has been exhilarating, overwhelming and downright terrifying. It’s been a thrill, and I can’t wait to snatch up more opportunities and new, positive experiences that walk my way.
