Meet the marvelous, musical Jeff Makjavich, singer/guitarist of the band The Harm and this week’s Campus Cutie!
Name: Jeff Makjavich
Year: Senior
Major: Philosophy
Hometown: Salem, OR
So being a Senior, what do you want to do after you graduate?
Well that’s the million dollar question! *laughs* I know I want to do something with writing, hopefully something in social media, creative writing, or song writing. I love music.
Where is your favorite place to go in Portland?
Well, I’ve had my best times at Doug Fir Bar and different venues on Mississippi Street. Oh! And I’m a huge fan of chicken wings at Fire On the Mountain, definitely some of the best I’ve ever had. My friends and I meet up there a lot to have wings, and I especially recommend the boneless ones.
Valentine’s Day is coming up, what are you going to do to celebrate?
Being a single man, I’ll probably be scouting the town at some bar or a show of some kind. I’ll most likely end up at Holocene, there’s a DJ there every second Thursday or so who has Soul Nights, so I’ll be there dancing to some Soul music.
Describe your perfect girl!
Well, she has to be comfortable and confident with herself, she shouldn’t feel the need to impress or please. She also has to value a sense of humor above all and be down to go to shows and out often! I like to go places, so someone that can keep up and have fun!
Every guy needs this outfit in his closet?
Skinny tie with a nice shirt to go along with it, some salvaged jeans, and casual brown leather boots.
You’re a musical guy, what started your love of music?
Back in the day in fifth grade, I heard the guitar solo in Stairway to Heaven and that made me want to learn guitar. A few years later I saw it joked about in Wayne’s World and that in combination with my love of music eventually lead me to the genesis of my musical career.
If you could pick one song to describe yourself what would it be?
Definitely “Dance For You” by The Dirty Projectors. It represents me because the song is about approaching life as a fun celebration, but there’s a line that says “there’s an answer, I haven’t found it, but I’ll keep dancing till I do,” which is how I live my life, looking for truth or something better, and I don’t know what ti is yet, but I’ll keep dancing until I do.
