With ASUP elections just in a few days it’s becoming more apparent that, as a student, your voice matters, and voting is a way to express what you hope to see happen at this school. Just like the Italian nun who blew the judges away on The Voice Italy, with her amazing rendition of No One by Alicia Keys, people can always surprise you! We are given loads of surveys to take all the time and it’s vital that we are active members of our UP community to make this school the best that we can. So whether it’s for ASUP, CPB movie of the week, dorm activities, or where you want to see the Major Event Fund go, make sure your voice is heard! Here are a few tips to help make the voting process easier for you!
1. Read Up: Make sure you know who you are voting for and how they have influenced the school so far! If they are returning candidates, know what they have done to improve the school and what they plan to do in the future. If they are a new candidate, look at what their vision is and see if that’s something you wish to see for the school as well! Great resources for this The Beacon (old and new issues)!
2. Ask Around: I personal y think that the more opinions you hear about something, the better you will be able to create your own, well-rounded opinion about something. Don’t be afraid to ask friends or even professors about what they think and value! I’ve gotten a lot of great advice this way and it really helps open your eyes to the pros and cons of whatever you are voting for!
3. Set a Reminder: I always feel bummed when I’ve let an election or survey pass me by, so set a reminder in your calendar so you don’t forget! That way there is no way you will let your chance to vote slip by!
Don’t let this opportunity pass by! Vote for whatever you can get your hands on to help make our campus a better place for everyone! Happy Voting!
