One of the most common questions that people ask me is:Â What exercises should I do? Should I lift weights? Should I do aerobic activities? Run? Swim? Yoga? Twirl around in circles?
People just starting out on their journey to health have so many choices in front of them that they get confused. Psychologists have even shown that the more choices one is presented with, the more paralyzed one becomes. Well, let me solve this problem for you.Â
The real answer to all of your questions is this:Â ITÂ DOES NOTÂ MATTER WHAT YOU DO.Â
Wait, what? It doesn’t matter what I do? But…. I thought that cardio is better for your heart than strength? What if I want to increase muscle mass? Blast body fat? Well, guess what? None of that matters if you hate what you do. Seriously. If you cannot get yourself to enjoy what you are doing to improve your lifestyle and health, then the journey is NOT worth it.
Pick an activity (or a handful of activities) that you love and stick with it. Love to run? Lace up your shoes and go out for a run. Love doing yoga? Roll out your mat and get your yoga on. Don’t pay attention to what other people are doing. Everyone has their preferences (mine is lifting) but you are under no obligation to conform. Do what YOU love and take great pride in it.
