Cooking for Yourself? Save Time and Calories by Meal Prepping!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Princeton chapter.

One of the most-heard reasons for not eating healthy is “I don’t have time.” When you are tired from a long day at work, it is so much easier to just grab a quick meal from a fast-food joint or throw that frozen pizza into the oven to cook. No one has time to be standing around slicing vegetables, cooking rice, or preparing fruit….. right? Wrong.

One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned this summer while cooking for myself is this: food prep. On Saturdays or Sundays (whenever you have time), dice all your vegetables, store them correctly, cut up and marinate your meat, and cooking will be a walk in the park for you. All you have to do is heat up a pan, combine some vegetables, throw in some spices and voila! Your healthy and easy vegetable stir-fry is ready to eat. You can even mix it up by adding some meat and getting your protein fix.

By food prepping ahead of time, you remove the time crunch that used to be your excuse for not eating healthy. Come Wednesday night, your vegetables are diced already, your meat has been marinating…. So what’s your reason now?
