Jojo Siwa has been known for her iconic dances, songs, and influence on a younger audience since her debut on Dance Moms. Now, there is one more accomplishment she can add to her list: she will be the first celebrity to have a same-sex dance partner on Dancing with the Stars!

Season 30 of DWTS is expected to premiere on ABC on September 20, 2021 and usually consists of professional ballroom dancers teaming up with celebrities who compete to win the Mirrorball trophy at the end of each season. While it is typically a male-female duo every season, Jojo will break down the barrier and compete this season with a currently unknown same-sex partner.

Jojo first came out to the public through Tik Tok in January 2021 as she jammed out to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and lip-syncing the lyrics, which earned her immediate acceptance into the Pride community. In April 2021, she revealed that she identifies as “technically” pansexual, saying “that’s how I have always been my whole life … my human is my human”.

Jojo’s announcement for Dancing with the Stars is an immense step forward for the LGBTQ+ community. Especially for an influencer like her that generally caters towards a younger audience, she highlights that no one should be afraid of their sexuality and who they love. Her heavy social media presence and willingness to fight back against the standard norm in society, and on the show, demonstrates just how important it is for representation and inclusivity.

I am also just as excited to learn who her female partner will be this season and what she brings to the show. Between her dance moves, her iconic style, and her representation of the LGBTQ+ community, this season of DWTS is definitely one to tune into! Be sure to watch this season’s premiere on September 20th to see each amazing pairing of dancers and celebrities, as well as who will take home the mirrorball trophy at the end of the season!
