As a senior about to graduate from PC, I’ve been reflecting a lot lately about my time here, and what I wish I could tell freshman me. Here they are:
- People can surprise you
- It’s not all one big party
- There is no actual golf involved in golf party
- Get out of your comfort zone
- Save all of your projects in one place, this will serve as your portfolio
- Take advantage of the Tutoring, Writing and Career centers
- It’s okay to ask for help, that’s why there are resources on campus
- It’s pronounced “mar” not “meeger”
- Finding a good balance of social life, homework, and family will take time
- An A in high school is not the same as an A in college
- You will find your people
- Go to events on campus, you may meet new people and have fun!
- Join a club/intramural team
- Your life is going to significantly change
- Friarbucks run out really quickly
- Check ratemyprofessor.com when making your schedule, but keep in mind that some posts may be biased
- Get a planner
- Don’t panic if you lose your PC ID, other students are usually really good about returning them
- USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM – I can’t stress this enough
- You don’t have to, but investments like mini-fridges and microwaves can go a long way
- Sharing space is an adjustment
- Be courteous to your roommates about having guests over, let them know
- People don’t walk on the grass
- Attend sports events and support our teams! #gofriars
- Explore the city!!!!
- The RIPTA is easier to use than you think
- Wait to go home until Columbus Day weekend
- Perridals are a thing, and they are enforced
- Netflix is a good way to unwind but don’t use it to procrastinate
- Not everyone is going to want to be your friend, and that’s okay. Don’t get discouraged
- Four years goes by really fast
- Get ready for the time of your life
I’d like to note that this is based off of my college experience. Everyone’s is different :)
