When there’s a person in your friend group that deals with mental illness, it’s always a hard thing to deal with. You never really know what to say or how to feel for that person until they ask you to help them. The most important thing you can do for them is to try and listen to what they want to tell you, you never want to force something out of someone if they don’t want to talk about it. Another thing that is important is to understand if they don’t feel like going out, or if they go out and feel like they have to go home.

It’s really hard to try and tell your friends that you want to try and go home because you know you don’t want to ruin their fun. When dealing with a mental illness, it’s never going to be easy especially for the person that has a mental health condition or the people they surround themselves with. It’s really hard for your friends to understand how you are feeling most of the time, so you have to try and talk to them so they are able to understand how you are feeling a little bit more.

When you become more vocal about how you feel around your friends, the more they understand and want to help you. When people that have a mental health condition try and say they don’t want to do something, keep asking them because they will regret it if they don’t go. Sometimes things are harder for us to do, but we wake up and everyday try and have the best day possible.

There are days where we don’t feel like getting out of bed, and going places, and that’s ok if that happens. It’s important to just respect how they are feeling. Mental illnesses are hard, but they shouldn’t stop you from doing things that make you the happiest. Don’t miss out on those nights out with you friends, or being with your family.
