Ever wondered who that bubbly, funny, and charismatic guy lurking around Burke is? Well wonder no further! This week’s profile is on Behrend’s very own Bear.
Name: Michael “Bear” Cellerini
Age: 20 years old
Major: Software Engineering
Year: Junior
Hometown: Gibsonia, PA
Involvement on Campus: Triangle Fraternity – Vice President of Standards, Inter-Fraternity Council – VP of Judicial Affairs, Alpha Sigma Tau Sweetheart, THON
What made you want to come to Behrend?
I’ve always wanted to come to Penn State and I actually only applied to this school because of the love I have for Penn State. Originally I only wanted to attend University Park but my mom convinced me to tour Behrend and I just fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere. The thing that really intrigued me the most was the very small teacher to student ratio and knowing that I would know my professors personally and I would be a person to them, not just a number.
How did you end up choosing engineering as your major?
Since I was in grade school I loved math, science, and problem solving. Software engineering is all three of those things put into a career. I love building things and figuring out how to solve every problem I am faced with, which is the very basics of coding.
You are in Triangle Fraternity, tell me how you became involved.
As soon as I came to college I knew I wanted to join a fraternity, the issue was choosing the correct one. I met a few people during freshman year and they took me to a recruitment event for Triangle, it was actually laser tag. During this event, I met active brothers and I just connected with them right away.
Last year you became Alpha Sigma Tau’s Sweetheart, how has that been?
I absolutely love all the women in AST. The day I found out that you women had picked me to be your sweetheart I was so surprised and happy, especially because you kept it from me for so long. (Bear and I are super close and I totally did not tell him for about three weeks, it was the worst)
Any after college plans?
Of course, I want a job, but preferably I would like to stay in Pittsburgh, maybe live with my parents or close to home until I am financially stable enough to be on my own. I also want to find that special someone and start a family potentially.
Shout out to Bear for letting us do this interview! I had a blast interviewing one of my closest friends. Good luck with your junior year!! HCXO
