That’s a wrap, Collegiettes, 2015 is O.V.E.R. While most people think the New Year is the time to set unrealistic resolutions that, let’s be honest, nobody ever keeps, here at Her Campus Penn State Behrend, we are using this new chapter of our amazing lives to reinvent ourselves, and you should too!
Like a flattering blouse or the perfect pair of jeans, positivity accentuates every look. Sometimes the best way to jump-start the reinventing process is to do something out of your comfort zone. Whether that means getting a new haircut, purging your closet of the things you never wear anymore, or unfollowing the negative people in your life from social media, one little change can start a chain reaction. Use that momentum to pick yourself up and get back in the game.
At 11:59 pm on December 31, 2015, you were probably toasting to the New Year, toasting to new adventures, and toasting to happiness; do not forget that. Right before the clock struck midnight, thus beginning 2016, you were embracing whatever the New Year had to offer and, momentarily, forgetting that 2015 ever happened. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you need to sit and reflect on things you’ve done, choices you’ve made, and words you’ve said, but save that nostalgia for a rainy Sunday morning. This New Year is your chance to let go of the things giving you anxiety, stressing you out, or dragging you down, and become a better, happier person.
If 2015 was the best year of your life, KEEP IT UP, GIRL, YOU ROCK. But don’t let 2016 be as good as 2015, make it better! There are always, always, always ways to improve even the best situations. The saying goes: “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” But, just because something is working, doesn’t mean it’s working efficiently, so keep that in mind next time you are debating making a change.
Before I get too cliché, I will leave you with this bit of advice for your best year yet: just because something is new, doesn’t mean it is scary. Your future is yours and yours only; you are in control. Good luck, Collegiettes, and cheers to a kick-ass New Year!
