“Never leave our heart, never leave our thoughts
As time goes by they’ll never be forgot
Life goes on, though I wish that they was there
Shit like this ain’t never gonna seem fair”
September 7th, 2018 was a dark day for many after a beloved rapper tragically passed away, however for many students at Behrend, they lost more than just their favorite musician. They lost a local hero and in some cases, a personal friend.
Mac Miller was found Friday afternoon in his California home unresponsive due to an apparent overdose. The McCormick family has asked for fans to respect their privacy in this terrible time, so no further information has been released about his passing. Many family members and friends, however, have spoken out on social media and we would just like to share what they have said.
We would just like to take to the time to remind everyone that life is precious. It may get hard and stressful and crazy, but always remember that after every dark night there’s a brighter day. You are not alone and if you need help, there are people who want to help you whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse or anything.
Also, always remember to look out for those you love around you. Even if someone is laughing and smiling, a lot could be going on inside their head and in their personal life. Life is rough and the only way we can all get through it is if we stick together and be there for each other.
Mac Miller was an amazing artist. We loved him in 2010 when we listened to Knock Knock for the first time in middle school. We loved him in 2018 when we listened to his last album, Swimming, in our U-Gates apartment. He will never leave our heart. He will never leave our thoughts. He will never be forgotten.
Rest Easy, Mac.
