Makeup is form of self-expression that allows us to portray our personality and individuality in the form of art. The beauty and makeup industry is one of the biggest industries worldwide, estimating a total revenue of around $60 billion. We have an increasing amount of beauty bloggers and people who are passionate about makeup in this industry.
Â
So why do women wear makeup? Makeup helps us to look more professional, awake, and more confident. Similarly, this can be compared to buying an outfit that looks nice on your body. Both situations equally follow the “If you feel good, you look good” saying.
Â
Makeup can also be used to cover or correct things that we physically are unable to. For example, prominent birthmarks or dark circles can be covered by concealer or foundation. Certain makeup products can be used to enhance certain features to make you look more appealing and attractive. For example, using mascara, eyeliner, and bronzer or contour can help bring out your eyes and cheekbones.
Â
Lastly, we shouldn’t judge women based on the amount of makeup they wear. We tend to believe that women who wear a lot of makeup tend to be more insecure about their appearance, but they are just expressing themselves through different lipstick or eyeshadow colors. Some women prefer a natural look, some prefer a more dramatic look, and some prefer a bare face.
Â
Everyone is insecure about something. Sometimes makeup helps ease those insecurities. For example, if you don’t like your nose, you can always contour it to your liking. If makeup helps someone to love themselves more and/or be more confident, than who are we to judge or question their likes or dislikes?  However, we sadly live in a society where looks do matter and where it’s human nature to judge someone at first sight.Â
Â
Makeup shouldn’t be worn because you see others wearing it but should be worn to portray your personality to the world around you. Everyone is beautiful whether you choose to wear makeup or not. I believe that makeup is an art- your face is the canvas and you are the creator. At the end of the day, makeup is meant to be fun and exciting not something that people question or judge you about.
