Meet Olivia! She’s currently a sophomore with a double major of History and English and a minor in Political Science. She is a first time and hopefully on-coming writer for HC PSU Berks! After she graduates, she plans to go into law school, preferably at Columbia or NYU to become a Litigation Lawyer. She says, “I have been writing for almost thirteen years. I’ve always been more inclined to Literature, English, and Reading… and have always been an avid reader since I could read. Before I started writing formally, or even just for pleasure, I used to tell stories to my friends in kindergarten and elementary school. This was a real precursor to my creative writing.” She gets most of her inspiration from her lived experiences, the people around her or the people she’s encountered.
Many of the characters that she writes about are loosely based off of her family and friends. When asked about her writing style, she says, “even though the type of creative writing that I do are based in fantasy, I like my ideas to be rooted in themes I’ve either experienced or ones that are important in our current world.” She generally enjoys writing short stories, novellas that both deal with fantasy or hypothetical alternate societies and is currently working on a full novel based in an alternate society.
Olivia is a tutor in the Writing Center, a contributor to the campus literary magazine Shadows of Birds and a member of THON. We are happy to add her to the HC PSU Berks family and can’t wait to read what she has to say!
