Valentine’s Day is upon us and love is in the air… for most people, at least. As for the rest of us, our fill of romantic gestures must be found in other places. So, as you spend your Valentine’s Day sans significant other, check out these chick flicks and let their fictional love stories instill some real-life romance in your life.
1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
There is no better man to spend your Valentine’s Day with than the king of romantic comedies, Matthew McConaughey. In this movie, McConaughey makes a bet with his co-workers that he can make Kate Hudson fall in love with him, while, unbeknownst to him, Hudson is trying to act crazy enough to get herself dumped so she can write a magazine article about it. If this movie teaches us anything, it’s this: if you look like Kate Hudson, you can act like a crazed lunatic and good-looking guys will still fall in love with you.
2. The Last Song
Let’s all take a second to commemorate the sad end to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s relationship. While the couple’s real-life romance could not last, this movie allows us to relive the beginning of a beautiful Hollywood power couple. And as you look on with jealousy as the pair frolics around happily in the ocean, take solace in the fact that Liam is now single. Our time is now.
3. Crazy Stupid Love
This movie is an instant favorite, if for no other reason than the all-star cast. While Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have the type of chemistry that all real couples could only hope for, the movie’s most significant relationship is actually between Gosling and Steve Carell. “Be better than the Gap” is a motto we should all live by.
4. Titanic
Who better to spend the most romantic day of the year with than a young Leonardo DiCaprio? Jack and Rose’s whirlwind affair makes for a truly gripping love story and, despite the not-so-happy ending, Titanic has everything you look for in chick flick: a cute boy, family drama and a sinking ship that vaguely reminds you of your last relationship.
5. The Notebook
Of course, no list of chick flicks would be complete without what is arguably the most romantic movie of all time, The Notebook. If you can get through this movie without crying, you are probably not human. If you can get through this movie without saying, “Ugh, Ryan Gosling is so perfect,” you are also probably not human.
So order that pizza and fire up the Netflix, ladies. Valentine’s Day is coming…
