Do you ever find yourself missing breakfast? I for one am constantly missing breakfast almost every school day. I’m waking up right before my 9 A.M and running out the door. I can feel my stomach grumbling up till lunch and wish I had prepped snacks earlier or maybe just woke up earlier.
Whether you’re up late studying, out late with friends and overslept or just don’t have the time, we all can use some ideas for snacks on the go. Below I have picked out my favorite on-the-go snacks that you can throw in your bag before heading out to class!
Planters Honey Roasted peanuts
One of my favorite snacks on the go is Planters honey roasted peanuts. In a small container, they are perfect for travel. It’s a simple yet tasty snack. Even if you are not a honey-roasted peanut fan, Planters has many options.
They have unsalted, honey roasted, salted and much more. Nuts are also good for gut health and rich in antioxidants. Another major benefit of nuts is that they can be kept at room temperature. You will not have to worry about taking a lunch bag and putting an ice pack in or anything else. There will be no extra hassle except for taking the container and putting it in your bag. Planters have many different flavors and could be the perfect snack on the go for you.
Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop
The brand Angie’s Boom Chicka pop is available in a variety of flavors and bag sizes. The bag size option is very convenient and when you’re hustling, you don’t want to be thinking about prepping every morning before the day starts. Instead, you can throw it in your bag and enjoy the delicious popcorn in one of their many flavors. The snack also offers a whole-grain alternative to the typical popcorn. Typically found in the gluten-free aisle, it’s at most grocery stores. The popcorn is gluten-free as well and referend to as a healthier alternative to traditional popcorns.
Cuties Clementines
Cuties clementines are tasty healthy snacks that are easily a grab-and-go item. I am a lot more likely to take a cutie clementine than I am to get zip lock bags out. Need more Vitamin C in your diet? How about antioxidants? Cuties provide many healthy nutrients and leave you refreshed and ready to keep pushing through classes. Even more of the calories that are in the cutie comes from natural sugars and some protein. While you are eating healthy, your skin can improve as well. Not only is this a healthy and nutritious snack but, you are also able to compost the peel after you’re done!
Cliff Bars
One of my absolute favorite snacks is a classic Cliff bar. I’m especially fond of the mint chocolate flavor and think it is one of their best. If you know you have a workout later and do not have time for a healthy nutritious meal, cliff bars are the way to go. They have lots of carbs and are around 250 calories. A snack that would be more beneficial if you have a lot of walking between classes or a workout later in the day. There is also a high amount of sugar which depending on your health goals is something to take into account.
Rice Cakes
While rice cakes are generally low calorie and considered a low nutrient food, they provide certain benefits. Some rice cakes are amazing sources of fiber and other nutrients. They possess carbohydrates, protein and some fat. It is a carb they can be beneficial for building muscle if you plan on going to the gym later. They are quick and you can keep a pack in your bag. It is a smart snack to bring if you know you are going to eat a big meal later and need to fill up as well. It is also a clear choice for anyone trying to eat gluten-free or a low-carb snack. They are also a versatile snack and you can add peanut butter or other toppings since rice cakes tend to not have much flavor.
It can be incredibly difficult to eat healthily in college or even just get all your meals in. There seems to be an abundance of unhealthy snacks that it can just be easier to pick over healthy alternatives. To keep your physical and mental self balanced it is also important to take care of yourself. Treating yourself to some healthier snacks than you normally would be a small change to set you in a slightly healthier and happier lifestyle.
