5 Reasons to Go to Class When It’s the Last Thing You Want to Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

It’s Monday morning, and your alarm is ringing for the third time. What do you do? Well, press the snooze button again of course. When you finally get out of bed and look outside, you’re probably trying not to automatically freeze and go into hypothermia. With all of this, how on Earth are you supposed to choose treading along to your 9 a.m. rather than jumping back in bed? With December now rolling in, we find ourselves needing every ounce of motivation to make it to class, and HerCampus has got your dose of inspiration to making every attendance check.

1.Get more sleep

We all know there are plenty of reasons we tend to go to bed late, whether it’s staying up to do homework or you’re out and out about, we’ve all had many nights when you know you should be getting rest before trying to tackle your early class the next morning. Though, what we don’t realize is the less sleep you get, not only are you obviously more tired, but you’re also weakening your immune system, making you susceptible to more sicknesses. The key is to get more sleep, especially after those Thursday, Friday, Saturday ragers. Key note: Sundays might become your new best friend.

2.Avoid the Thanksgiving hangover

After a long, relaxing week of doing absolutely nothing but eating food and watching Breaking Dawn Part II (or the entire series in case you needed to catch up), the only thing we want to do is, well, do the exact thing we’ve been doing for the past seven days. This, I can guarantee, is officially your greatest downfall. Instead, try making a “Before the holidays” To-Do List. Whether that involves getting all of your Christmas shopping done on Cyber Monday, passing your next exam, or even just making it to class, write it down. It’ll help you stay motivated, and remind you that there are only three weeks until the end of the semester. Now is the time to get on your study grind, not completely fall off of it.

3.Dress comfortably

This might be a little obvious, but with Christmas right around the corner, so are the first snowfalls in Happy Valley. If you want to make it to class, maybe you don’t have to take the extra hour that you use getting ready when you could spend it getting more rest. This is for you people with the early schedules; how many people do you really think are out at 8 a.m.? Trust me, most guys aren’t, that’s for sure. Those that are out that early for class probably are trying harder to pay attention to staying awake rather than how the girls in front of them look. With the cold weather already here, bundle up in those sweaters and scarves—you can be comfortable and cute at the same time.

4.Finals will be here before you know it

If this isn’t a reason to keep (or for some of you, start) going to class, I don’t know what is. Finals are nearly three weeks away, and this is the time more than ever to get caught up with your school work and start studying for exam week. Before you know it, finals week will be here, and you want to try and avoid the death by exam rush that will be happening soon enough. Start reading over material in your spare time, and you might even find it easier to go to class when you actually know what your professor is talking about.

5.Decorate for the holidays

After being home and indulging in the festivities that signal the start of the holidays, it’s hard not to get homesick and wish you were home. One way to avoid this: decorate your dorm or apartment! It’ll make coming home after class even more appealing, and it’s a great way to keep your spirits up during the most hectic and exhausting weeks of your semester. Try putting up a few Christmas lights or even a make-shift tree. It’ll do wonders to the aura of your room, and studying will be a lot more fun.

If all fails, just think of it this way: every day you go to class is one day less you have until Christmas break. If you can’t get motivated to go to class through this list, just remember you’re this much closer to being home and being lazy once again.
