5 Toast Trends You Need to Try Today

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Just a year ago, no one ever put the words “toast” and “trendy” in the same sentence, but now, toast is everyone’s breakfast obsession. What’s even better is that it’s trend that even the thriftiest of college girls can afford!

You can make your toast as healthy or unhealthy as you want, using a variety of breads and toppings.

Worried about buying an entire loaf of bread just for yourself, only to have it go bad? There’s a simple solution!

Freeze your bread. Then, whenever you are ready to use it, pop it in the toaster, and you would never know it had just been taken out of the freezer.

Here are some of the top toast trends you need to try!

1. Avocado toast

I had to start with this classic that started the entire “toast” trend. Avocado toast has become every other picture on everyone’s Instagram feed, and that’s for a good reason! Not only are avocados delicious, but they are also packed with nutrients. Add the egg on top for extra protein and sprinkle on some crushed red pepper to give your metabolism a boost.

2. Toast with peanut butter and bananas

This toast will take you back to the days of elementary school, when things were simpler, and you didn’t have finals to study for. Enjoy this toast as an easy way to give yourself a healthy treat that almost tastes like a dessert. I personally love to add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey.

3. Toast with Greek yogurt and fruit

If you really have a sweet tooth but want to keep things healthy, then this toast is for you! Just spread some plain Greek yogurt on your toast and top with blueberries or strawberries for the perfect amount of sweet. This tastes great with a sprinkle of cinnamon, too!

4. Toast and Nutella

I could eat this toast for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. There is nothing better than Nutella, especially warm Nutella for breakfast. This is the kind of breakfast that will get you going for the hardest and longest of days. What’s also great about this is that it’s a great way to use portion control with Nutella. We all know how easy it is to sit down and eat an entire jar, but if you spread it on toast, you can satisfy your chocolate craving without going overboard.

5. Toast with Spinach and Mushrooms

I figured I’d leave you with a super healthy and great tasting option. In just a few minutes, you can sauté spinach and mushrooms and fry an egg. Just like that, you’ll have a serving of vegetables and protein to start your day on the right foot.

Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the way to start your day off right. With toast, you can make a great-tasting breakfast that can be eaten on the go and can really be anything you want. Get creative and enjoy being trendy!
