8 Ways To Better Yourself During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

This is a very scary time of uncertainty for us all, but that doesn’t mean that we need to put our personal growth to a halt. Here are some things you can do right now to continue bettering yourself as an individual:

Read books

Fiction or nonfiction. Read whatever you would like. Reading is good for the mind and soul.

Plan out your future

Figure out what classes you want to take for next semester. Really reflect on whether you are in the right major for what you want out of your life. Research the things you should be doing to get into graduate school if that is something you consider pursuing. Planning will help it all to seem just a little bit less stressful.

Declutter your space

Don’t just reorganize things. Get rid of things that aren’t serving a purpose in your life or bringing you joy. Actually clean your space afterward: dust, vacuum, Clorox, etc. You will feel so much better.

Do a puzzle

If puzzles aren’t your thing, maybe skip this one. But if you’re into puzzles, find one that you really like, sit down and do it with a friend or your family, and then Mod Podge it. Frame it and hang it up somewhere in your space. Some research shows that puzzles may even be good for anxiety, so if you’re feeling anxious during this time, grab a puzzle.

Try self-exploration

Try to figure out what your passions and interests are. See if you’re doing things every day that align with them. See if your future career will align with them. Figure out what you want your life to look like, then start taking the necessary steps.

Keep up with your schoolwork

With a lot of us switching to online remote learning, it can be harder to stay motivated. Recognize that you’re still paying to learn the material and that this semester will still affect your GPA. Your schoolwork should still be a top priority.

Practice self-care

Take this time as an excuse to stay at home and pamper yourself. Try a yoga workout or go for a run. Try a new healthy recipe. Relax. Enjoy all the extra time with your pets and family. Take a deep breath.

Check in with your loved ones

Make sure your friends and family are doing okay. See if there is anything you can do for them, or just call them and catch up.

“You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.”
