Calling All Glossier Fans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Glossier has taken rise in the past few years due to their impeccable makeup and skincare products, perfume and overall gorgeous aesthetic. This brand truly knows how to play to their strengths when it comes to attracting their target audience, and has become one of the most beloved and iconic “clean girl” companies today.

The company’s motto has always been “Skin first. Makeup second. Smile always,” which shines through with their focus on minimalistic makeup products that look stunning and emphasize natural beauty and embracing your uniqueness.

As they continue to grow, Glossier has recently announced a few new, (and old) additions to their brand, and we couldn’t be more excited. Here’s what’s new:

Balm Dotcom Revamp

Arguably one of the most iconic and popular items of Glossier is their lip balms, called “Balm Dotcom.” Known for its paint-tube-like design, these lip balms have been popular for years. It was one of the brand’s very first products to ever be released back in 2014.

The line has expanded over nearly a decade to include over nine unique fragrances, including seasonal and special edition scents. With each lip balm being perfectly tinted and fragranced, fans have grown to love this lip balm.

As a self-proclaimed lip balm connoisseur, I can attest that this product is worth all of the hype and more. So, what’s new?

Glossier has changed the design of the applicator, making it so the user can simply swipe the product directly onto their lips without using your finger as the middle-man. Surprisingly, fans aren’t as excited at this design change as was clearly expected.

The design of this product was so specific to their brand, fans are seemingly not too happy about the sudden change. However, this new style is easier to apply and overall more hygienic.

Although people are notoriously resistant to change, I am excited to try out the new balm.

In addition to the applicator itself is a new, larger cap. This was re-designed for the purpose of reducing leakage and a messy product after many usages.

Cherry is Out, Wild Fig is IN

Along with the new design is the return of one of their all time most popular scents — Wild Fig. This distinctive scent, described on the website as “jammy and fresh with a slight coral tint,” was one of their most highly requested to bring back. The good news is, it is here to stay!

However, this decision comes hand in hand with sacrifice. While the Wild Fig scent is now a permanent addition to the collection, it is with a heavy heart that fans say their final goodbyes to the iconic Cherry Balm Dotcom.

Without reasoning the scent was discontinued along with their new product changes, and fans speculate it could be due to their new formula, which is now approved as Vegan. Many have purchased the last that they could get their hands on, and some have resorted to reselling the product while jacking up the price (that just shows how much people really love this product).

Now Sold In Sephora

Saving best for last, the most exciting recent announcement from Glossier is that they are finally coming to Sephora. After over six months of anticipation since being first teased back in July 2022, the month has finally arrived.

Sephora released a post on Instagram, pointing at the collaboration with hints through embedded words in the photo, such as “Boy Brow” and “Cloud Paint,” some of Glossier’s most known products.

With less than a handful of permanent locations around the globe, the news of the availability at Sephora is even more exciting.

It is clear that the brand is planning a large expansion, likely due to the sudden rise in popularity in recent years. Over the summer of last year, Glossier announced the first permanent location at Ponce City Market in Georgia. After a few years of rare pop-up shops and predominant online access, the company is finally enabling even more access.

Opening four new locations in 2022 was simply not enough for these fans, and a fifth one is on the way to New York City, where it previously was placed but shut down from the pandemic. Now, with even more physical stores and Glossier joining hands with Sephora, your favorite products will be even more available.

As of now, fans can buy the products online from either the Sephora, the Glossier website, or their few storefront locations, and are now available in-store at physical Sephora locations.

Glossier is clearly making money moves, and I can’t wait to see where they go next!
