Happy New Year…now what?
Now, there are many TV show renewals and releases to come in 2023, but what about movies?
Most, movie theaters are up and running these days so I think it’s about time we all hunker down and go back to our roots of watching movies in theaters again.
It’s just a better experience that way.
With 2022 finishing out with the phenomenal film, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” I thought we should have a look at what is to come in the world of cinema in 2023.
Here are six of the most anticipated movies according to the Hollywood Reporter.
- “The Little Mermaid”
-
If there is one thing I have been living for recently, it is Disney live-action remakes.
“Beauty and the Beast” with Emma Watson left me in awe of the grandeur of filmmaking. Let’s just say I have high expectations for “The Little Mermaid.”
Three months ago, Disney released the official teaser trailer displaying the outstanding vocals of Halle Bailey as Princess Ariel.
The cast also includes Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem.
- “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
-
Moving away from fairytales, we have the release of the third movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
This movie is supposed to take place after Marvel’s “Endgame” where, main character, Peter Quill lost his love interest, Gamora (played by Zoe Saldaña)
Of course SZA’s designated “big boy,” Chris Pratt, will play Quill.
- “M3gan”
-
The trailer to this movie has been haunting my TV screen recently in the best way possible.
Universal Pictures’ “M3GAN” will be released on Jan. 6 is about an orphaned girl, Katie, who befriends an AI named Megan who is assigned to “protect” her.
Obviously, things go wrong.
- “Spider-mAn: Across the Spider-Verse”
-
This is the sequel following “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” to be released on June 2 (so a little later in the year, unfortunately).
Like the previous movie, this one will follow Miles Morales while he meets with other Spider-Mans from different parts of the multiverse.
- “Barbie”
-
Warner Bros released the first teaser trailer two weeks ago featuring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
The film is directed by Greta Gerwig who also directed “Little Women” and “Lady Bird.”
From the trailer, we can expect this movie to be a colorful, comical and fun experience for audiences of all ages.
I think everyone can agree we are all anticipated some “over the top” wardrobes for the cast.
- “Hunger Games: the Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”
-
Finishing out this list we have the prequel to the famous “Hunger Games” series.
Prequels are either a hit or miss, so I’m interested to see how this one pans out.
This movie is set to be released soon, Nov. 17, and will focus on the character Lucy Gray Baird who is mentored by Coriolanus Snow, commonly known as President Snow (the bad guy).
Rachel Zegler, who is known for her role as Maria in “West Side Story,” will be playing Baird along with Tom Blyth as Snow.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie with follow the villain arc of Snow and how everything came to be.
I hope to see you all hitting the theaters again this new year!
