As most collegiettes know, Corinne on this season of The Bachelor is a crazy lady, (to put it nicely). I’m not that into the show, but I will agree that is extremely entertaining, much of that entertainment coming from Corinne and every aspect of her. As my roommates watched this weeks episode, I overheard them shrieking and now I know why. After the show aired, Penn State senior Mark Chandley released a GoFundMe for one of the bachelorette’s nanny, yes a grown woman with a nanny. Chandley is a THON loving, Penn State proud, security and risk analysis major from St. Louis, Missouri that is now an unintentional Internet sensation. The GoFundMe page went viral. In just a couple of days the page has gotten over a 100,000 views, almost 40,000 shares on Facebook and mainstream news outlets have reported on his GoFundMe. He has been featured in US Weekly, Elite Daily, Bustle, Hollywood Reporter and most importantly E! There are people commenting that his GoFundMe is hysterical, while others bash him and call him a scammer.
HC: Are you an avid Bachelor/Bachelorette watcher?
MC: I have only seen the first three episodes of this season. My roommates asked me if I wanted to watch and I thought, “Hey that might be kind of funny.” I guess I’ll be watching to see how things pan out.
HC: What prompted you to create this GoFundMe?
MC: I had a friend who mentioned doing something like that as a joke and I committed to the idea.
HC: Did you think it’d get as much publicity as it did?
MC: I never imagined that it would blow up like it did. I never expected I would even make one dollar. I was surprised both Elite Daily and US Weekly picked it up in such a short period of time.
HC: What sort of backlash have you gotten about it?
MC: That I’m a scammer. Most of the hate is coming from people who are actually raising money for serious causes. I understand that and I in no way mean to take attention away from those causes.
HC: What would you say to the haters?
MC: I would say that the show presents the nanny in a very funny manner and something to laugh at. This is how my friends and I took it. It takes away nothing from this generation’s ability to think critically about other serious issues, when we are not having fun.
HC: Who do you predict will get the final rose this season?
MC: Did you watch the last episode? Vanessa. Clearly. Match made in heaven.
As of today, the goal of his GoFundMe was $100,000. So, when you see the articles about, “someone who started a GoFundMe for Corrine’s nanny” that someone happens to be a lot closer than you think!
