As a fourth year student in college, I am sad to say I never travelled for spring break. I never understood how college kids afforded these trips in the middle of the semester.
As an avid spring breaker in my Philadelphia suburb hometown for the past four years, I have some ideas up my sleeve to make this the best yet.
- Theme nights
-
Theme nights always take an average night and escalate it to one you and your friends or family won’t forget.
For my first night on break, my parents and I want to enjoy the nice weather and sunshine since we haven’t had it in awhile.
To elevate our night, I put together a bonfire, created some signature cocktails and set up the hibachi grill for some dinner.
- build your own book-club
-
If you and a few other friends are just hanging around your hometown for break, choose a book that is interesting to you all. Then set a goal to read a certain amount each day.
At the end of each day, you can host your own little book club and talk about the book together.
One of my favorite series right now is the “Twisted Love” series. Full of twists and turns, new characters and perspective shifters, it’s a great conversation starter and fun opportunity for you and your friends.
- clean out your closet
-
Babe, you know it’s time. We know it’s time.
It’s hard to part ways with that dress that fit so good in high school. However, it is spring cleaning season and you need to get rid of anything that doesn’t serve you anymore. It may be a hassle, but in the end, you will feel so much lighter and your closet will thank you.
Also, there’s more space for new clothes!
- visit your closest beach
-
This may be just for my East Coast or West Coast girlies, but nothing makes my day better than sitting by some type of water. It always makes me feel calm, present and at peace.
With the weather getting nicer and some time freeing up, this is the perfect opportunity to do something for yourself.
Whether its a lake, river or ocean you are closest to, head that way, play some of your favorite tunes and let yourself be at peace.
- book that reservation
-
You know there is that one restaurant you have been dying to go to. Now is the time to gather up some friends or family and make that reservation while you have some down time.
Living in the Philadelphia area, there are so many new restaurants I have been wanting to try. Whether it is Mexican, Chinese, American or Thai food, the city has it all and there is so much to explore.
One of my favorites is Cafe Carmela. A small Italian place with the best pasta. They make the pasta right in front of you making it truly a one of a kind experience.
Overall, spring break does not have to be a glorious trip to Europe, Florida or somewhere warm. You can make it special and fun in your own way.
