It’s a brand-new year, which can only mean one thing: there’s a plethora of Marvel movies scheduled to be released!
Like many others, I am a huge Marvel fan and am always elated when they have new TV shows, mini-series and movies to release throughout the year. This year, the MCU is kicking off Phase Five with four new movies — all of them being sequels — giving audiences another chance to see some of the franchise’s biggest characters!
- “Ant-man and the wasp: Quantumania”
-
With a release date of February 17, 2023, the well-awaited sequel is finally arriving after a four-year wait. Once again, Paul Rudd stars as the famous Scott Lang/Ant-Man, starring alongside cast members Evangeline Lilly (playing Hope van Dyne/Wasp), Michael Douglass (Hank Pym) and Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror).
This movie is predicted to play a major role in Phase Five of the MCU, as it is the first movie of Phase Five (and of 2023!).
The plot centers around Ant-Man, Wasp and other prominent characters as they get stuck in the Quantum Realm. In the Realm, they meet Kang the Conqueror, interact with strange new creatures and embark on an adventure that pushes them beyond what they thought was possible. Scott, of course, also uses quality screen time to reconnect with his daughter after the five-year Blip.

- “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
-
The final installment of the series, the Guardians of the Galaxy experience one final mission together when the movie releases on May 5, 2023.
The main stars are back for one final time: with Chris Pratt staring as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Pom Klementieff as Nebula.
Although Marvel has done a great job at hiding the full plot of the movie, trailers and marketing have hinted that the storyline will be emotional and is expected to feature at least one major death. The film has been confirmed to explore the origins of the Guardians, with a focus on Rocket. It is also confirmed that the characters High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock will enter the scene, and the Guardians will try to stop their sinister plots (whatever they may be).

- “Spider-man: Across the spider-verse”
-
With a release date of June 2, 2023, the next installment in the “Spider-Verse” series will see a return of the original cast: Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker.
The majority of the first movie took place in the universe of Miles Morales and based on the trailer, the sequel looks like it will take place in Gwen Stacy’s universe (Spider-Gwen’s universe). According to the Internet, the plot is centered, once again, around Miles Morales, who is catapulted across the Multiverse. He encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, however, Miles Morales finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. In order to solve this conflict, Miles must soon redefine what it means to be a hero in order to save the people he loves the most.

- “The marvels”
-
On July 28, 2023, audiences across the U.S. will have the opportunity to witness a Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) adventure, four years after “Captain Marvel” itself was released.
Not only is Brie Larson starring once again as Captain Marvel, but Teyonah Paris will join the cast as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani will take the stage as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. It is also confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) will have a large role in the film.
The plot of “The Marvels” has been set up through the episode six post-credits scene of “Ms. Marvel” where Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel switch places due to Kamala Khan’s (Ms. Marvel) mysterious bangle. It is suspected that the connection between Carol and Kamala will somehow pave the way for Carol and Monica to be united. It is also said that the movie will play some kind of role in setting up a future movie — “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
