Frank Ocean is undeniably one of the most talented musicians of our time. His talent is out of this world and his songwriting is brilliant. His music makes me feel all the emotions which is a quality I admire in his music.

Ocean has three incredible albums, “Nostalgia, Ultra,” “Channel Orange” and “Blonde.” His entire discography is genius. “Blonde” is my favorite album where I will be ranking my top five favorite songs off the album.

Ocean’s “Blonde” is an album full of heartbreak, loss, trauma and personal reflection.

White Ferarri

Ever since I first heard this song a couple of years ago it has been my personal favorite. It’s beautifully written and unique which I love about it.

“White Ferrari” is a song I can play over and over and never get sick of. I still feel all the same emotions as the first time listening.

There are so many interpretations of what this song is about. However, I believe “White Ferarri” is a breakup song.

It’s about two people who weren’t meant to be. Despite how much love they had for each other they were ultimately different people who didn’t view life the same.

The last line of the song “and we’re free to roam” signifies the freedom ending the relationship brings and the start of something new, which is beautiful.

It is known that Ocean has an obsession with cars which might be the significance of the song title. Although we will never know the true meaning behind this song, most fans seem to agree it was written about a past relationship that didn’t work out.

Self control

“Self Control” is a slow ballad where Ocean describes himself losing his self control in a relationship. His lyrics state someone new coming along and his partner chose the new love interest over him.

He now has to sit with the tragedy. The outro and hooks of this song hit differently.

Ivy

In “Ivy,” Ocean reflects on his mistakes in his failed relationship. This song shows Ocean was filled with anger from this breakup, yet the beauty of their love, both the good and bad.

This beautiful song has a youthful energy, even Ocean admitted to changing his voice to sound younger to capture young love.

Solo

I see “Solo” as having two separate meanings. “Solo” as in Ocean is alone and “so low” emotionally in his loveless life. This track is about embracing being “solo” even though it could be hard at times.

The church organs in the background fit this song so well which is why this is one of my favorites.

Pink + white

This is the most upbeat song on the album which is why it stands out to me the most.

This song is about Ocean reflecting on his life and the experiences that have shaped him. He acknowledges the highs and lows and moments of his life like the color of the sky, pink and white.

Dissecting the meaning behind these songs makes each of these tracks even more special to me. Ocean is such a talented musician making these some of my top songs to exist. Fans have been anticipating he will drop an album soon, so now it’s time to patiently wait.
