After a fun night out, whether it be hitting the bars or the frats, we all know we need to eat something. In State College, there is a mecca of restaurants that are open until 2 a.m. to feed the rowdy college kids. Here is the Her Campus @ PSU ranking of what are the best drunk food spots downtown.
College Pizza: 5/10
When you really, and I mean really, think about College Pizza, it is kind of gross. From my balcony, I have a direct view of College Pizza, and when I see someone go in during the day, a sober piece of me dies. It hits the spot when you are drunk, but other than that it is concerning. Also, what is the deal with having a card minimum? For that alone, it deserves its ranking of 5/10.
Canyon Pizza: 8/10
The age old question: College or Canyon? Honestly, the answer should be Canyon Pizza. One of State College’s biggest flaws is that it does not have a stand-out pizza place. For downtown, and depending on what state of mind you are in, Canyon does the job.
Halal Cart: 9/10
Halal Cart gets a 9/10 rating because of its portion sizes. They provide a considerable amount of food, and it always leaves room to reheat for the next night’s drunk food. Additionally, buying from Halal Cart always makes me feel like I am supporting small businesses. The men who work there are always so friendly, and they go above and beyond with their service.
El JEFE’S: 7/10
El Jefe’s is good, but the line becomes insane at times. I feel like Yallah Taco may be just as good, especially if you are not really going to remember your meal. Also, I am just more of a fan of Chipotle, but it is not open that late. I do love their churros though.
McDonald’s: 10/10
McDonald’s is a classic for many reasons. First, you know your order by heart and it is universal that you know exactly what you are going to get out of your meal. Next, when you are in a tipsy state and someone suggests McDonald’s, it is a crowd pleaser. Like some of the other restaurants on the list, some people may not be a fan. Therefore, as a lovable favorite, it deserves its 10/10 ranking.
Your Own Home: 7.5/10
Making your own meal is tragically underrated. It allows you to go home, put on comfortable clothes and recap the night with your friends. For me, I buy the Trader Joe’s Breaded Fried Ravioli, and throw it in the air fryer. It is quick, and I do not have to wait in long lines and deal with the violently drunk students of State College.
In conclusion, State College does not have the best options for cuisine. But late at night, these establishments will do the trick. These restaurants are also important for the ultimate Penn State experience, so make sure to enjoy.
