It seems like Reneé Rapp has been everywhere lately.
Rapp has been in the spotlight for only a couple years, but even as a newbie to the entertainment industry, she certainly made a name for herself.
Her career took off in 2019 when she was cast in the Broadway musical “Mean Girls.” Rapp played the role of Regina George — one of the most well-known female characters in teen comedy history.
Rapp’s extreme talent in this role immediately shot her into the spotlight. She took the stage as the infamous queen bee from Sept. 2019 until March 2020, when production shut down due to the pandemic.
Her success in the Broadway adaptation garnered her more public interest and she caught the eyes of other filmmakers and producers.
In 2021, Rapp was cast as Leighton Murray in Mindy Kaling’s HBO series, “The Sex Lives of College Girls.” In the show, Reneé Rapp portrayed a young queer woman struggling with her sexuality and coming out to those around her.
Rapp mentioned that this role helped her come into her own sexuality, and has been proud about identifying herself as a bisexual woman.
Off-screen, Rapp is highly focused on her music. In 2022, she released her EP, “Everything to Everyone.”
Her beautiful writing and insane vocals gained her an even larger fanbase, which allowed her to release her album “Snow Angel” (and its deluxe counterpart) in 2023. The album covers heartache, maturing and the ups and downs of being in your 20s. The album takes listeners through every emotion, which is what makes it such a magnetic record.
Since the release of her music, she’s been very open about her struggles with mental health, being a queer woman and navigating her newfound fame. Throughout her musical upbringing, she has had the opportunity of working with other talented artists such as Megan Thee Stallion and Coco Jones.
“Snow Angel” had been one of the more long-awaited albums of 2023, and the albums release broke several streaming records. It came as a shock that the Rapp wasn’t nominated for a category for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
In recent interviews, the singer/songwriter mentioned that she would like to put out her sophomore album this year (fingers crossed).
More recently, the 24-year-old has been busy this new year promoting her new musical film, “Mean Girls.”
The adaptation, which mirrors Tina Fey’s 2004 “Mean Girls,” brings a refreshing change to the well-loved original.
Rapp stunned fans by coming back as the one and only Regina George, this time on the big screen. Her portrayal of the OG plastic seemed to be done almost effortlessly and once again, Rapp has made the entire internet crush on her.
By the way, “World Burn” makes for the best revenge main character moment.
Reneé Rapp has been killing it lately, and she has no plans of slowing down. It seems like everyone is obsessed with the actress and singer/songwriter whether it be they’re a fan of her music, acting credits or hilariously unhinged personality.
In the meantime, catch her as the music guest for Saturday Night Live on Jan. 20.
