What is that I hear? Are those birds chirping? Could that possibly be the sun I feel against my skin? And maybe even a sprouting daisy patch on the Great Lawn? Oh, how we Purchase girls have missed our daily dose of vitamin D. Fret no more ladies, because (as our groundhog predicted) spring is on its way. The only question on my mind is: what must one wear in the meantime?
To begin with, simply because Old Man Winter decided to take a break from unleashing his raft, doesn’t mean one should break out their short-shorts and crop-tops. Instead, why not opt for a blazer?
Transfer sophomore, Janelle Marsden expressed her view on the spring blazer, and mentioned her “love [for] how blazers make [her] feel dressed up even with jeans alone.” Take, for example, Urban Outfitters’ boyfriend blazer; both classy and perfect for the spring breeze.
The Mercedes-Benz Spring 2011 fashion week proves that although a bit grunge; when paired with a tunic-dress or floral print skirt, combat boots are a must. Not so into the black strapped down boot? Check out a patent lace-up ankle boot. Get these boots in just a pop of color and your army-styled boots are met with a touch of chic; or at least psych major, Cynthia De’Rosa thinks so.
“I never really thought about it,” says De’Rosa. “But boots in bright colors are really cute for spring.”
Moving on to tops; a personal favorite of mine for the upcoming season are three-quarter sweater cardigans. Whether the length of your cardi is long enough to drape just below your upper thigh, or if it stops at the waist, pair with leggings or tights to keep the look elegant. The best part about cardigans?
They literally come in every color under the rainbow pallet. For the prettiest touch of spring, take a look at Free People’s (very Purchase) WTF Navajo Cardi.
Another favorite item for the spring transition? Venture into the world of the cargo skinny-pant. These pants can easily be paired with ankle boots. Once the warmth of spring rolls around, one can dust off their wedge or peek-toe heels and wear them with pride.
In addition to the cargo skinny-pant, why not try something straight off the Mercedes-Benz fashion week runway? Well, not exactly (we are surviving on a college student budget). A close second to BCBG Max Azria’s pencil skirt is Charlotte Russe’s satin pencil skirt for only $14.49.
In general fashion for the new season, start the base your outfit with a ‘spring’ into the latest trending colors. Who better to inquire about anything trending then fashion design minor, Kenya Burke? “I know for a fact nudes are very in right now,” Burke says. “Also bright orange, blues, and lavenders.”
So ladies, get ready to say goodbye those heavy articles, and hope the snow will melt just as fast.
