The Midwest’s best will soon be travelling to nearby Indianapolis to compete for the coveted title of the Big Ten Tournament Champions. The tournament will be held from March 8th through the 11th at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Last year’s champions were the Buckeyes hailing from Ohio State, but many Purdue students may remember in 2009 when our very own Boilers took the championship beating OSU 65-61. In the 2009 tournament, current fifth year senior and the heart of this year’s squad, Robbie Hummel, earned the coveted title of “Most Outstanding Player.”
Along with Hummel, current players of the Boston Celtics, JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, led Purdue to the big W and were named All-Tournament Selections. Matt Painter was the coach of 2009’s team and holds a record of 5-5 in Big Ten Tournament play.
Since Indy is such a close drive, the Boilermakers hopes to see many of you decked out in your black and gold to support them! Tickets can purchased tickemaster.com, so break out your face paint and old gold cape and head south just an hour to show your Boilermaker spirit for our squad!
