As the world found out this past Sunday, Taylor Swift is releasing her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department and Swifties everywhere couldn’t be more excited! However, there is one person out there who I guarantee is not excited: Joe Alwyn.
Over the past 18 years, Taylor Swift has been making and releasing music and her fans have been eating it up. During her career, she has released 10 albums. She has also re-released 4 of those albums, and has announced her 11th album which will be released on April 19th. Over the years, she has written many breakup songs and Swifties everywhere have reason to believe that this new album, The Tortured Poets Department, will be full of them. Many also speculate that this album will be about her ex Joe Alwyn. Why do they believe that thought? Well, I am here to fill you in!
Let’s start with the Grammy’s, when Taylor Swift initially announced the album. She had just won her 13th Grammy and revealed that she had kept a secret from her fans for 2 years. Yes, 2. What happened 2 years ago? Well, two years ago was about the time that she had written the song, You’re Losing Me. This song was released as a vault song about a year ago for the album, Midnights. To add on, 2 years ago was about the time when her and Joe Alwyn called it quits after 6 years. So, if she has been working on this album for the past two years, there is reason to believe that it could have something to do with their breakup.
However, that is not all. The album is titled The Tortured Poets Department. While this may not seem weird, Joe Alwyn had also revealed to the world before that he had a group chat with two other men named The Tortured Man Club. Could this be a coincidence? I don’t think so based solely on the fact that Swift laces everything she does with easter eggs for her fans.
Now, if you look at the released track list, there are a number of songs that seem to hint at the London Boy. First and most obvious is track number five which is titled So Long, London. There are also a few other songs that lead fans to believe this could be about Alwyn, such as My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys and loml. I guess time will only tell if these are really about who we think they are.
Finally, the last potential coincidence is the release date; April 19th. April 19th is not only the date that the American Revolution began but it also holds some significance to the Taylor Swift community. April 19th two years ago was when all of Taylor Swift’s friends went and unfollowed Joe Alwyn on all social medias. Personally, I do not believe there is any way in which this would be a coincidence. I think this album is definitely a breakup album about their relationship.
The whole Swiftie community and I could be wrong but there are too many coincidences involved with this album at this point. All I know is I hope this album is as intricate and emotionally complex as her other works!
