The fall season at Purdue University is undeniably beautiful. As the leaves change colors and begin to fall, campus gets a whole new sense of comfort. The cozy vibes and fall energy travel fast. With football season at its peak, comfy sweats finally making their way back out of the closet, and Halloween approaching, now is the perfect time to celebrate the arrival of fall. The period of time between fall break and Thanksgiving break is the best time to do a festive fall activity with friends. Here is a list of the best activities to do near Purdue’s campus.
- Apple Picking
Wea Creek Orchard is open Thursday – Saturday from 10am – 6pm and Sundays from 12pm – 6pm. Wea Creek is a family-owned local farm. I went to this apple orchard this past weekend and it was beautiful. There is lots of variety in apples and there are plenty of activities within the orchard to participate in. The orchard has a little market where you can purchase jams, spreads, soaps, honey, candles, and plenty more. The orchard is free to enter. You pay for the apples before leaving, so it’s perfect if you are on a budget.
- Pumpkin Carving
There is something so nostalgic about carving pumpkins. This activity is so much fun to do with friends. You can even make a competition out of it. Pumpkins and carving tools can be purchased from the local Target, Payless, or really any grocery store. When you are finished with your pumpkin, it will make for great fall or Halloween decor. Set some newspapers down and get carving!
- Corn Maze
We’re in Indiana, go get lost in some corn! Exploration Acres in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana offers Indiana’s largest corn maze. Exploration Acres has pumpkin patches, hayrides, and fire pits available to rent out. This site is chalk full of fun fall activities to do with family or friends.
- Farmers Market
Purdue hosts farmers markets every Friday in memorial mall. There are plenty of yummy fall treats up for sale. The Purdue farmers market is a great place to walk around and check out local vendors. I recommend looking for the flower tent and honey tent!
It’s so easy to want to curl up and stay inside when the seasons begin to change, but I seriously encourage you to make the most of this autumn season by getting out there and embracing fall. I hope that this list of festive fall activities helps you pick your next fall adventure. Have an amazing fall!
