Hairstyles: Sometimes Change is Better!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

I have had relatively short hair pretty much my entire college career. When I graduated high school, I had long, luscious locks. I was inspired to be adventurous that summer and make a change—perhaps due to all the upcoming changes college would bring, and I got an angled bob. I must say that eight inches is a lot of hair to see on the floor, but I also have to admit that I have absolutely loved that hairstyle—I still love it! It’s really great when you find a cut that works for you. However, four years later, it was time for a new change. I have been trying to grow my hair out (slowly, but surely), and decided to dye my hair and auburn red color. Some people get so nervous about hair and change, but I think I secretly like the uncertainty. I hope I don’t regret saying that one day in the future! However, my challenge to you is to make a change; you might be surprised how much you like it!

So, you decided to be brave and take my suggestion? Let’s look at some ways you can change your hair and spice it up!

1. Auburn Red
If you have mousy brown hair like me, and don’t want the up-keep of highlights, why not go to the dark side? People with any form of brown hair can pull this look off, it’s just important to find the correct hue. What is great about ‘Auburn Red’ is that it’s just a shade darker than your natural hair color but the red gives it an extra glow as well as balancing you hair color from making it look too harsh.

2. Extensions
So you have that medium length hair that doesn’t seem to be growing anymore, but you want the options to have the gorgeous long hair? Extensions have come a long way. Now they make easy to use clip-in extensions that come in various lengths, depending on how long you want your hair to be. They are wonderful because you can curl them, straighten them, and wash them just as you would your own hair. There are different types, some which are heat-resistant, so make sure to get the right one. I personally love the ‘EuroNext’ brand, which you can find at your local Sally Hansen Beauty Supply store for around $90. It is slightly expensive, but they are definitely worth it when you want options.

3. Bob Hairstyle
Short hair can be nerve-racking. However a ‘bob’ hairstyle doesn’t have to be extremely short. There are numerous variations to this hairstyle. Listed below are a few different bobs if you want ideas. I personally like a little bit of ‘stacking’ in the back. This is when layers are put in so that you can easily tease to help boost volume. Listed below are bob hairstyles from short to long!

Hopefully now you have some new ideas to change your hair up! Go for those blonde highlights if you’ve never put color on your hair! Be brave and get that cute new bob and donate your hair to a worthy cause. You’ll feel like a new you!
