It’s almost here! The solitary Saturday morning of spring semester that many legal aged drinking students look forward to is just days away. Breakfast Club, where the bars open at 7AM, and students dress in ridiculous costumes and rage to 80’s music while sucking away at their Screwdrivers. Personally, I am an avid Breakfast Clubber and look forward to seeing what costumes will make an appearance on State Street this Saturday. So, what will you be wearing? Some of you may have already been planning your costumes for weeks. However, many are still struggling to come up with that perfect outfit. Here are some tips on pulling off a great Breakfast Club costume!
1. Be creative! (Captain Underpants, anyone?)
I know that this sounds cliché, but it’s true. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seena the 80’s, crayons, or dominos. Think outside the box! As collegiettes™, I know that we are capable of coming up with great, original ideas. One reason why I love Breakfast Club is the randomness and creativity on display at 6:30AM while waiting in the bar lines. If you’re still stuck, try brainstorming with friends. Creative costumes can be hard to think of, but with a little effort and perseverance, you’re sure to come up with something!
2. Homemade costumes are the best!
Anybody is capable of going out and purchasing a pre-made, generic costume. However, it’s way more fun, and often cheaper, to make your own! Some of you may be thinking, “But I’m not crafty.” The good news is that you don’t have to be! For example, a bag of jellybeans can easily be created with a clear plastic trash bag, balloons, and some sort of string for a tie. It’s easy, cheap, and there aren’t a whole lot of bags of jellybeans spotted entering Brothers. Making your costume is super fun and it allows you to take pride in what you’re sporting!
3. Keep recent events in mind!
Events such as the rescue of the Chilean coal miners or the Taylor Swift and Kanye VMA fiasco offer great opportunities for Breakfast Club costumes! Not only are they humorous, but can also only be pulled off right when they happen. Check the paper, Internet, and news for recent happenings that could potentially lead to some great Breakfast Club costumes. Of course, there won’t always be great opportunities to use recent events, but it’s something definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Breakfast Club is supposed to be an outlet for fun and creativity! Embrace these few precious Saturday mornings that we get each year and take full advantage of them. You’ll want to remember the great time you had fist pumping to the 80’s music at Where Else and ending up at Harry’s double fisting popcorn and a Baltimore Zoo
