The executive board of Her Campus at Purdue is very excited to announce the first recipient of our member of the month award, Jordan Utermark. Jordan has been a loyal member of Her Campus at Purdue for years and has shown her commitment by consistently writing articles and attending meetings. Therefore, we couldn’t imagine a better choice to receive the honor of Member of the Month and are so delighted to share her with all of our readers. To get to know our January Member of the Month a little bit more, read the interview below!
What is your name, major, and year in school?
My name is Jordan Utermark. I’m a sophomore majoring in History, along with minors in German and Forensic Science.
Where are you from?
I’m from Lafayette, Indiana and have lived here all my life.
How long have you been a member of Her Campus at Purdue?
I have been involved since freshman year!
What is your favorite thing about being involved with HC at Purdue?
I love connecting with like-minded women and writing about topics I’m passionate about.
Why did you choose to join HC at Purdue?
As an incoming freshman, I really wanted to get involved into an organization here at Purdue. I found Her Campus Purdue on Instagram and immediately became interested in becoming a writer. Last year, although our meetings were over zoom, it was a great way to connect with other aspiring writers and creators!
What do you like to do outside of school?
My hobbies include binge-watching Netflix, playing tennis, listening to music, and hiking with my golden-retriever dog, Beau.
What is your favorite class you’ve taken at Purdue?
As a liberal arts major, all students are required to take six classes in “disciplinary
studies” for their degree. For example, being in the history program, I had to take five
classes in other liberal arts programs, such as anthropology and political science. Last
semester, I took this class and loved it. Taught by Professor Melissa Will,
a former CIA analyst, she delves into American intelligence efforts and debunks theories
surrounding espionage and other misconceptions. I highly recommend it if you’re
interested in working in intelligence!Â
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
In my junior year of high-school, I traveled around the U.K and I fell in love with Ireland. It’s such an intensely beautiful country filled with lovely individuals. I would love to back to Ireland and explore more countryside. But, my dream vacation, is to island hop around Greece. So, either travel to Mykonos or Santorini and spend my days on the cliffs.
What kind of music do you love to listen to?
I have an eclectic music taste, but I mostly listen to Indie Music. My favorite artist of all time is Lana Del Rey but I’m a recent fangirl of Taylor Swift. I’m a little late to the party, but folklore caught my attention, and I’ve never looked back.
Favorite place to shop?
I love to shop at Target, Anthropologie, H&M, ASOS, Aerie, and Gymshark.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
After graduation, I hope to attend law school and pursue a career in a law.Â
What is your biggest goal for your future?
I would love to backpack around Europe for a summer!
What is one thing about you that surprises people?
I’m an avid tennis fan.Â
What would you tell someone thinking about joining HC at Purdue?
Don’t feel intimated! We would love for you to join us.
Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you?
I work at Starbucks, but I actually don’t like coffee.
