You are what you choose to wear. And it’s so true. I am a firm believer in the saying “look good – feel good.” What you choose to wear defines the first impression people receive without even speaking to you.
I genuinely feel less productive when I am wearing sweats and a sweatshirt or “frumpy” feeling clothes, which is also why nobody will ever catch me in sweats before 7:00 pm 90% of the time. Coming from a scientific perspective, research has been done regarding our clothing choices. There was a study done that concluded people wearing formal business clothes felt more powerful and had more control in certain situations. If you feel the need to get motivated to workout, studies show just putting on your workout clothes leads to actual greater motivation.
There is also a science behind the colors you wear and how that affects your self-image.
- Red: positive feelings of power, passion, romance
- Yellow: happy, cheery, promotes creativity
- Blue: relaxing and calming
- Black: serious and professional looking
- Purple : sophistication, authority, calming,
- Green: calming, stress relieving
Inner and outer beauty are obviously two different things we have, although there is a relation between the two. I believe you radiate more beauty and are simply just a naturally more beautiful person when you have a kind heart and confident stature. Having confidence and self-assurance is an attractive trait, and a portion of that can be due to the physical appearance you chose to present yourself in. This is not to say that your beauty relies on your outfit choice whatsoever, but the power that a good outfit provides can make a difference in the way you feel about yourself and come across to others.
I have zero hate towards the sweatpants, sweatshirt, and/or messy bun OOTD, I am just here to reinforce the importance that clothes have on your productivity and overall day to day self-confidence.
