Personally, I will always look back on Halloween as times full of carving pumpkins, going to haunted houses with my friends, and watching spooky movies. Whether I was going to friends’ houses to go trick-or-treating for king size candy bars or painting weird faces on pumpkins, the night tended to end with watching Spooktober movies. From my childhood, my three top Halloween thrills would have to be:
- Hocus Pocus
-
Hocus Pocus is the classic, go to Halloween movie. It follows three quite unique looking witches as they go after three teens and a cat. The children stumbled into an abandoned house looking for some spooky fun and accidentally, let loose insane witches. Comparing to the humor of Christmas’ Home Alone, the kids set traps and try to escape the witches as they chase them to get their spell book back. I would definitely recommend this movie, if you are looking for a good laugh and good times with your friends!
- Twitches
-
My personal favorite Halloween movie is Disney Channel’s Twitches. I spent many Halloween nights at my grandparents with my five other cousins, piling under blankets to jump at this movie. Now, I watch this movie and think to myself, wow I was afraid of the darkness… But aren’t even some of us still afraid of the dark? This movie stars the Mowry twins as new witches defending their own dimension from which they were born. Used to a human world, the girls get preoccupied in a fight as the darkness comes for them at their weakest; when they’re away from each other. The two fight with the power of love against the darkness to fully grasp their new powers as two twin witches.

- Return to Halloweentown

A second, popular Disney Channel original movie is Return to Halloweentown. This is another must see film for the season! It follows Marnie Piper as she goes off to a new witchcraft college on a scholarship. She goes to learn about her powers, but instead, she discovers a new truth about her family and the motives on the headmasters of the university. She works against the leaders as they try to gain control of the citizens through her, and she risks everything to make the right choice. This movie includes traveling to the past, experiencing the students’ witchcraft, and even a genie!
Just thinking about all these movies gets me sentimental about my family’s own Halloween nights. So, get your college friends together, stay in for a night of sorting candy, and start your friendly fright night!
