Alright, before anyone flips out when they get to the end of this list, turkey is not on it. I for one think Turkey is slightly overrated. Although I will admit, there are serval different cool ways to make it and some of those are pretty good. While I do enjoy the turkey at Thanksgiving and I am thankful for all the food I have always been blessed to eat, turkey just doesn’t make my top five. Also, not on the list is gravy. I feel like that is a given that it is amazing and goes on basically your entire plate of food. Anyway, check out my top five favorite yummy Thanksgiving foods!
- Fresh Baked Bread (Thanks Dad <3)
-
My dad makes the best fresh baked bread. Starting in the late fall and lasting till early spring, my dad will make various types of fresh bread. It is hands down the best bread anyone will ever eat. On Thanksgiving, he always makes a fresh, hot loaf of it for us to enjoy (and for me to dip in the cranberry sauce.
- Cranberry Sauce
-
I know that this is a controversial one, but this is one of my favorite year-round foods. When I was younger, I used to eat entire cans of it for snacks. My mom literally had to hide the cans to get me to stop eating so much of it. It is so good to put on the turkey or on the fresh baked bread or in your Black Friday wraps. A Black Friday wrap in my household consists of leftover turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce all wrapped up like a burrito. If you have never tried one, it is a great way to get rid of leftovers.
- Stuffing
-
Okay so to clarify, even though some people advise against it, the best stuffing is made with white bread and is put inside the turkey while it cooks. It makes the stuffing so savory and doesn’t let the stuffing dry out.
- Sweet Potato Casserole
-
My aunt’s recipe for sweet potato casserole is definitely the best. It has enough butter and sugar to bake several cakes but that is what makes it the yummiest. I always take a huge scoop of the buttery, creamy sweet potatoes, with the sweet sticky nut topping.
- Mashed Potatoes/ Mashed Turnip
-
I live for potato products (or bi-products?)! Mashed potatoes are so yummy, especially with some cream and butter mixed in with them. I load them up with gravy and make sure I’m wearing my stretchy pants. I also love mashed turnip. They are pretty similar to mashed potatoes, except a little orange in color and the taste is a little sweeter. Again, I put gravy on these bad boys too. I also decided to put them both as number five because they are so alike and I usually mix mine together.
